Sunfield Home Howick believes that people with intellectual impairments deserve to be provided for in a protected environment for life, where they are encouraged to extend their abilities and achieve a life of fulfilment. We care for and develop people with intellectual impairments in a protected and stimulating home-from-home environment. We have adult residents of all races living in our 5 house

s and accept adults from 18 years onwards.We can accommodate a wide range of intellectual impairments and we place each individual according to their specific needs and abilities. Sunfield Home is situated on 22 hectares of sloping hillside in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Our residents enjoy beautifully grassed areas shaded by large trees, which are maintained by our committed Estate staff. We have several sports facilities where our residents can participate in soccer, soft ball, swimming, games and more. There is a heated swimming pool, two bocce courts, as well as a putt-putt course, which the residents can enjoy.

Sunfield collects recyclable materials that can be used by *Singakwenza* to create educational toys and resources for children.

We're looking for items including:

♻️ Yoghurt, margarine and ice-cream containers
♻️ 2L cooldrink bottles
♻️ Soft plastics
♻️ Food cans
♻️ Cereal boxes
♻️ Magazines
♻️ Toilet roll inners
…and more!

What an incredible few days it has been for our Sunfield swimmers! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

After months of training, dedication and early mornings in the pool, our swimming team is heading home from Rustenburg with an amazing 4 Gold medals and 1 Silver medal!

A huge congratulations to:
🥇 Carol Mileham — 50m Freestyle
🥇 Gayle Hutchinson — 50m Breaststroke
🥇 Emily West — 50m Backstroke
🥇 Hylton Heggie — 100m Backstroke
🥈 Jenna Higgins — 400m Freestyle

And the excitement doesn't end there...
At the Team South Africa selection last night, 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀 and 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 were selected to represent South Africa at the Special Olympics International Games in Chile in October next year! 🇿🇦🏊‍♀️

We couldn't be prouder of what our swimmers have achieved — and we're so excited to see where this journey takes them next.

The Games are about more than competition.

One of the wonderful parts of the Special Olympics experience is Athlete Wellness — giving athletes the opportunity to receive a range of health and wellness assessments while also learning more about looking after themselves as athletes.

Our residents took part in assessments covering areas including vision, hearing, dental health, physiotherapy, medical care and dietetics.

It's an important reminder that supporting athletes means looking at the whole person, not just what happens in the pool. 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

We loved seeing our residents taking part, learning and making the most of everything the Games have to offer.

Yesterday, three of our Sunfield ladies had the opportunity to represent Sunfield at the Provincial Athletics Games in Durban — and what a day it was!

𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗞𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 took part in the walking event, completing an impressive 7 laps around the track and finishing in 1st place! 🥇

𝗛𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗹 competed in the shot put, giving it her all across three throws.

𝗙𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗯𝗯𝘀 was selected as a reserve for the discus event. Although she didn't get the opportunity to compete today, being selected as a provincial reserve is an achievement to be proud of!

A big thank you to Brenda for accompanying our ladies, and to Johannes for safely taking our residents to Durban and bringing them home again.

What a wonderful opportunity to get out there, participate, compete and represent the Sunfield community.

As our swimmers get ready to head to Rustenburg for the Special Olympics, we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to Amber Valley and Aggie for welcoming our residents to their pool for their training sessions. 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

Having a place to train and prepare has been such a valuable part of the journey, and we're incredibly grateful for the kindness and support shown to our swimmers.

🔥🏊‍♀️ The final training session is done... and we're ready! 🏊‍♂️🔥

Yesterday marked the last training session before our swimmers head to Rustenburg for the 2026 Special Olympics South Africa National Summer Games.

After weeks of early mornings, practice, persistence and plenty of fun, the pool preparation is officially complete!

As the Flame of Hope makes its way through the North West Province this week, the excitement is building for what lies ahead. 🔥

Tomorrow, our swimmers will begin their journey to Rustenburg, where athletes from across South Africa will come together for the Games.

For our residents, this is a chance to challenge themselves, enjoy the experience, make memories and be part of something truly special.

The training is done.
The bags are almost packed.
The excitement is VERY real! 🎉
