Eyethu Hout Bay Skatepark

Eyethu Hout Bay Skatepark A public skate park in Hout Bay that caters for all and brings communities together. EYETHU is a Nguni word meaning "our". A new South African Space.

It is also an affirmation of shared ownership or partnership. The skate park at the new Hout Bay Sports Ground aims to help create a truly public space for both community use and to promote youth development. A space needed where people can share and experience common interests. A safe space for all, from all walks of life. The site is located at the confluence point of three different demographic

areas in the centre of Hout Bay, providing an opportunity for integration through the creation of a new South African space where people can share and experience common interests through skating and other sporting activities.

🌟 Help Us Light Up Christmas at Eyethu Skatepark 🌟

Every December, Eyethu Skatepark becomes more than just ramps and rails — it becomes a place of joy, belonging, and celebration for the children and loved ones of the Ziyaad Skate School Programme, together with youth from across the Hout Bay Valley.

Our annual Christmas Party brings together kids from Imizamu Yethu, Hangberg, and the wider Valley for a day of skating competitions, fun prizes, a community braai, and the highlight: a gift bag for every child to take home.

🎁 For many of our skaters, this may be the only gift they receive this festive season. That’s why we pack each bag not only with treats, but with essentials that carry them into the new year with dignity and confidence.

What we need this year:

✔️Back-to-school stationery ✏️
✔️School shoes & socks 👟🧦
✔️Swimming costumes 🩱 (summer is here!)
✔️Festive treats & small toys (even gift bags or backpacks) 🍬🎲
✔️Skate gear & fun prizes 🛹

How you can help:

✔️Sponsor or donate items from the list above
✔️Contribute towards goodie bags and party costs
✔️Donate prizes kids will treasure
✔️Make a financial donation — every rand counts

Meet Wawa – A Talented Young Barista Looking for Work

Mxolisi Mbatha, known to many in Hout Bay as Wawa, has been part of the Eyethu Skatepark community since the beginning. What started as a spark of interest in skateboarding quickly grew into something more.

He became one of our most committed youth instructors – always reliable, always showing up for the younger skaters.
This was through – our after-school skateboarding program.

Due to difficult family circumstances, Wawa lost both of his parents at a young age, and in recent years, he’s had no permanent place to stay — moving from one couch to the next. Even in the face of these challenges, he’s remained steady, present, and committed to the work. What he needs now is a supportive community around him — something steady to hold onto as he builds a more secure future.

Earlier this year, we offered him a helping hand and supported him in completing a professional barista training course through the — as a way to give him a second chance at building a stable and meaningful life. He’s now certified, skilled, and eager to get hands-on experience in a real café environment — but we’ve been struggling to connect him with an opportunity.

We’re open to discussing short-term volunteer or trial opportunities where Wawa can gain experience and prove himself in a working environment. He’s reliable, quick to learn, and genuinely motivated to grow in this space.

If you are hiring, or willing to give him a foot in the door, please get in touch with him directly:
