Eco Children

Eco Children We believe that all children should be given the best possible start in life and that a decent education is a fundamental human right.

We work in environmental education & whole school development in areas neighbouring the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve in the Limpopo & Mpumalanga provinces, South Africa. We believe that by reducing the burdens of poverty, creating an environment conducive to learning and stimulating a childโ€™s curiosity through awareness of the natural world, all children will have the capacity to flourish and b

ecome catalysts of positive change in their families and their communities, resulting in both environmental and economic benefits. To support Eco Children's work, donate at www.ecochildren.co.za

๐ŸŒฟ THE POWER OF EXPERIENCE

Some lessons cannot be taught from a textbook.
They are learned while standing beneath ancient trees, tracking wildlife across the African bush, listening to the sounds of nature, and experiencing first-hand the beauty of the world we are entrusted to protect.

Throughout the year, Eco Children creates opportunities for learners to step beyond the classroom and connect with nature in meaningful ways. These experiences build confidence, spark curiosity, and help young people understand their place within the natural world.

We are reminded daily that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, explore, and dream beyond what they know today.

Because when young people are given experiences that inspire them, they begin to imagine futures they never thought possible.

๐Ÿ’š Investing in a child today creates a leader for tomorrow.

๐ŸŒฑ WHY BURSARIES MATTER

Education has the power to transform a life โ€” but only when opportunity exists.
For many talented children, financial barriers prevent them from continuing their education beyond primary school.

The Eco Children bursary programme exists to change that reality.

By creating access to quality schooling, we help bridge the gap between potential and possibility.

๐Ÿ’š One opportunity can change everything.

We are delighted to welcome Celia Hancke back to Eco Children!

Celia first joined Eco Children in 2018 as a Project Coordinator and Mentor for our bursary students. During her time with the organisation, she played an instrumental role in developing libraries, Eco Villages, and programmes that have positively impacted hundreds of children and their communities.

โ€œWorking closely with students and communities gave me a deep sense of purpose. Every story I encountered reminded me of the importance of opportunity, encouragement, and consistent support. It was about more than managing projects - it was about investing in lives and helping to open doors that could change the course of a young personโ€™s future.โ€

After a short break, Celia returns with renewed passion, valuable experience, and a clear vision to strengthen our programmes, expand our impact, and create even more opportunities for the communities we serve.

We are excited for this new chapter and look forward to the positive difference we will continue to make together.

Welcome back, Celia! ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ

WALKING WITH PURPOSE

In less than a month, Amy Macaskill and Percy Mashaba will take on Walking Wild 4 Girls 2026, spending four days walking through the wild and free Klaserie Private Nature Reserve.

From 7โ€“10 September, their journey will make a sustainable impact as they raise awareness and funds for our Eco Children Bursary Programme, helping create opportunities for young people in the communities surrounding the Klaserie.

The journey starts soon, and every kilometre will count.

Support Amy and Percy as they walk with purpose and help make a difference.

๐ŸŒ WOMEN IN CONSERVATION

Women are shaping the future of conservation in powerful and meaningful ways - from classrooms where environmental awareness begins, to the field where wildlife and ecosystems are protected every day.

At Eco Children, we see the impact of women not only as educators and caregivers, but also as leaders, mentors, and changemakers within conservation and community development.

Their influence reaches far beyond the spaces they work in. It shapes how children learn, how communities grow, and how the natural world is valued and protected for future generations.

Women are not only part of conservation - they are helping to lead it forward.

๐ŸŽ’๐ŸŒฑ KIT-A-KID | BUILDING PRIDE, BUILDING FUTURES

We often say that education begins with dignity.

For many children in our partner schools, something as simple as a school uniform can change the way they show up in the world. It changes how they are seen by others - and more importantly, how they see themselves.

Through our Kit-a-Kid Programme, and in partnership with PEP Stores, we are able to provide a full school uniform for just R500 per child.

Behind every uniform is a child with dreams, potential, and a future waiting to unfold.

As we move closer to our annual distribution, we continue working towards our goal of reaching 250 children this year - each one representing a story of hope, opportunity, and change.

Because when a child feels seen and supported, everything changes.

๐ŸŒฑ GIRLS IN EDUCATION = STRONGER FUTURES

When a girl stays in school, everything changes.

She gains knowledge, confidence, and opportunity - but more importantly, she gains the ability to shape her own future.

And when that happens, the impact does not stop with her. It extends into her family, her community, and eventually, into the broader economy and society around her.

We see education as one of the most powerful tools for long-term change. It is not only about learning in the classroom - it is about building confidence, breaking cycles, and opening doors that once felt closed.

Supporting girls in education is not just an investment in individuals. It is an investment in stronger, more resilient futures for everyone.

๐Ÿ“š EDUCATION BUILDS RESILIENT ECONOMIES

Malala Yousafzai once said:
โ€œOne child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world.โ€

Amy reminds us of something equally powerful:
โ€œOne girl, one dream, and one chance can educate a nation.โ€

At Eco Children, these words are not abstract - they are lived realities we see every day in the communities we work with.

Education is more than access to learning. It is opportunity. It is dignity. It is the beginning of transformation for entire families and communities.

This belief is also at the heart of initiatives like Walking Wild 4 Girls, founded by Amy Macaskill in 2022 and inspired by Malala Yousafzaiโ€™s story of courage and advocacy for girlsโ€™ education.

Set in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Walking Wild 4 Girls is more than a journey through one of Africaโ€™s most pristine wilderness areas. It is a symbolic and physical walk of purpose - raising support for the education of a young girl from a rural community and empowering her, and others like her, to become future leaders, mentors, and advocates for change.

Because when a girl is given a chance, she doesnโ€™t just change her own story - she changes what is possible for everyone around her.

Education creates possibilities. Opportunity turns them into reality.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn.

But for many girls, that opportunity is never guaranteed.

Walking Wild 4 Girls exists because we believe education has the power to change not only one life, but many.

One girl who finishes school can inspire her siblings, strengthen her family and contribute to a thriving community.

Change rarely happens all at once.
It begins with one opportunity.
