A big congratulations to Renske van der Hoek, a MSc intern who joined us from Wageningen University & Research, for being awarded 8.5/10 for her internship. 🎉👏

During her time with us, Renske generated the first systematic density estimates of spotted hyenas in Olifants West Nature Reserve (OWNR) and the adjacent Blyde Olifants Nature Reserve (BONR) using spatially explicit capture-recapture (SECR) methods. Her work contributes to the limited body of research on spotted hyenas in the Lowveld Bioregion and provides crucial baseline data for long-term monitoring of spotted hyena population trends in both reserves.
