Last night's launch of the Lisima handmade basket .

Thank you to Frances Potter for travelling to Hoedspruit to share her stories on the work of the artisans. We had a successful online auction hosted by Mike Grover and a brief visual presentation, all in all a most enjoyable evening under the giant fig tree.

Thank you to the staff of The NeighbourHoed, Safari Wines and to Angi Ellett from for all her hard work in making this the success story it is fast becoming.

You can visit The Art House and view the work that is currently on display.

At Kulani Collective, everything begins with people.

With hands learning new skills.
With craft taking shape.
With small moments that grow into something more.

Over time, those moments become livelihoods.
They become opportunities.
They become impact.

This is the work we are continuing to build.

As Kulani Collective has grown and evolved over the past few years, we’ve been reflecting on the moments that quietly shaped what it is today.

This was one of them.

Before there were structured programmes or defined pathways, there was simply a willingness to begin — to share skills, to sit together, and to create.

In a home setting, with just three women, we started with a sewing course. No big plans. No expectations. Just the belief that something meaningful could grow from small, intentional steps.

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

That belief still sits at the heart of Kulani.

Because every piece, every skill, and every opportunity begins the same way —
with hands, with time, and with the decision to start.

There is something powerful that happens when craft becomes more than just making — when it becomes livelihood, identity, and opportunity.

Over the past few years, Kulani Collective has been working alongside rural artisans and makers across Limpopo and the Greater Kruger region — walking a journey of growth together.

We are now at a pivotal moment.

A moment to deepen skills.
A moment to strengthen what is being built.
A moment to expand traceability and storytelling — so that every piece carries the story of the person and place behind it.

This next chapter is about growing something that is sustainable, meaningful, and rooted in people.

We’ve launched a BackaBuddy campaign to help us step into this next phase.
