Round Table - Hilton 242

Round Table - Hilton 242 Round Table Southern Africa is a non-political, non-denominational association of young men between the ages of 18 and 40.

Embracing representatives of nearly every profession and occupation, and whose objects encompass the encourage Adopt, Adapt, Improve Round Table History

The first Round Table was formed in Norwich, England in 1927. The founder, Louis Marchesi, was a young member of Norwich Rotary Club who felt a need existed for a club where the young business men of the town could gather on a regular basis. At t

heir meetings they could exchange ideas, learn from the experiences of their colleagues and play a collective part in the civic life of Norwich. Within a year of inception the membership of this Round Table had grown to 85 and interest was being shown in establishing Round Tables elsewhere. From a very early stage it was agreed that Round Table would be a non-religious, non-political club and this has continued to this day. A second Round Table was established in Portsmouth and subsequent growth was rapid, with 125 Tables and a membership of 4,600 by the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. Round Table proved it had international appeal with the first overseas Table formed in Copenhagen in 1936. During the war years Round Table in Denmark continued to expand although in the British Isles activity was restricted and was in the nature of a ‘holding operation’. After 1945 the pattern of growth was rapidly re-established with Tables being ‘chartered’ all over the UK. Round Table now flourishes in the majority of European countries, throughout Africa, the Middle East, India, Hong Kong, New Zealand and America. In fact Round Table is represented in every continent of the World. Name and Badge

Round Table owes nothing to Arthurian Legend, deriving both its title and its maxim from a speech made to the British Industries Fair in 1927 by the then Prince of Wales – ‘The young business and professional men of this country must get together round the table, ADOPT methods that have proved so sound in the past, ADAPT them to the changing needs of the times and wherever possible, IMPROVE them’. The phrase ADOPT, ADAPT, IMPROVE is a key facet of the organization and is often seen on Round Table literature and regalia. The design of the Round Table emblem is, however, an adaptation of the table which hangs in the Great Hall in Wi******er. Although this is claimed to be the Round Table of the mythical court of King Arthur, it is in fact a representation which was made in the 13th century

And that’s a wrap!!
The Travelling Trio finished up the numbers meeting in Denmark with a bang, Norway being named the destination for 2027🥳

After the tour de Denmark, which of course was handled with ease by Lloyd and Kevin (these boys are pure athletes - some would say elite), the trio decided to go to Lego Land for bragging rights with their own children! Lloyd and Kevin rode every rollercoaster, there was immense laughter to cover up their super girly screams!
After Denmark the team headed down to Germany, Shweinfert to be exact, where they were hosted by tablers and had the privilege of meeting Waldur - an avid 41er from the area.

Then onto Arbon 24 where it all began. The trio was met with open arms and cold beers, a braai was had and then some Romanian spring water which quickly turned Kevin into a hunter and he proceeded to *shoot a cat. Lloyd and Ralf went blind in opposite eyes and the night was called off by the referees (Judith and Megan) 🫡
The next morning was a tough one, Lloyd and Kevin’s oil lights came on! Ralph took the wounded soldiers for a drive on a road with approximately 9873 corners - the boys were fighting demons on their last day!

Kevin found a passion for cycling,
Lloyd found his musical calling,
Meg got stuck in a giant beach chair.

All in all it was unforgettable trip, meeting new friends and rekindling old friendships, the table world is something unbelievable.

When we reached the airport for our departure the batteries were at a low 12% and the fellowship was at steady 23%.

Final score:
Europe 0
SAFFA’s 1876

The Travelling Trio are in their final trimester.

Finishing off in Austria with a bang, minus a small case of diarrhoea, they rode a cable cart up the Hochköning Biberg, rode down in a bobsled thingy and had a traditional Austrian barbecue of sausages (very burnt sausages).

They then collected their rental vehicle in Munich and drove to Coevordon where they were welcomed by 41ers, Sieto Doornbos, Johan Scheltens, and Josco as well as the famous treasurer from Coevorden 142 Melle Doornbos.
Our three have had the privilege of touring the Meyer Werf and Bourtange, playing a round of golf and attending a Round Table meeting where all of Coevorden 142 was given a pin the Hilton way! A few too many ice teas where had here which resulted in a late start for the trip up to Ringkobing in Denmark.

Kevin found a donkey, Lloyd found a headache and Megan has given up on being polite to Kevin and Lloyd.

The next 600km drive is going to be a true test of character, resilience and will reveal whether or not any of them actually like each other at all, time will tell!

Batteries are at comfortable 52%
Gees is at an all time high of 164%

A little update on the travelling trio:

It's been an exciting time so far, the first leg of their trip has seen them travel to Switzerland to meet up with the guys from Arbon 24, then onto Austria where they visited Salzburg 30.
Our three musketeers are currently in Zell am See visiting the guys from Zell am See 28, tomorrow they will head to Munich and then onto the Netherlands.

Lloyd found a unicorn, Kevin found his happy place (a mini excavator) and Meg has a full time baby sitting job now.
What’s more, a Knighting was witnessed but appears to be the Temu version.
Lloyd’s wife saw a video of Lloyd and Kevin peddling a foot operated, two seater boat today and has started to wonder if maybe Meg might be the third wheel in this wild European expedition they’re on.

As you can see from the photos the fellowship and Gees is currently running at 129% whilst the batteries are at a steady 81%.
