We exist to facilitate opportunities for learners at educational centres of excellence.

The purpose of these opportunities is to bring out the best in these individuals by placing them in an environment in which they can thrive.

In order for Mentees to make the most of their opportunities and the accompanying mentorship provided at High School, the onboarding process gets underway very early on, in the boy/girl’s Grade 6 year. And now, by this time in Grade 7, with just one term left at Primary School, things become very real.

The Onboarding Workshop #1, for the Grade 8 Mentees of 2027, along with their parents/guardians, took place at the Amathuba Office, on Wednesday 24th September 2026. Mentees and their parents now know what to expect from the Mentorship Programme and are aware of their roles and responsibilities to make the most of this. They understand the extent of the timelines of mentorship, as well as the reality that its up to them to accept the invitation to feel a sense of belonging, have a voice, and be part of the exciting BIG PICTURE at Amathuba. They received their Mentee Handbook and Parent Handbook respectively, and the workshop left them much more ‘ONBOARDED’! This process will be completed at the second Workshop coming up in early November, by which time the Mentees will have been assigned their Mentor.

We are so excited about these 7 beautiful families that we will be walking alongside. 🩵

Networking and nurturing relationships has always been a beautiful part of the Amathuba story 🩵

This month, that story took us to Johannesburg for a series of meaningful meetings and a special catch-up with our post-school Mentees.

The highlight of the trip was watching our post-school Mentees connect with older FJF alumni who are now navigating the working world. Seeing them network, share resources, and encourage one another to keep going was a powerful reminder of the community they are building.

“Bryce hit it on the nail with Silo’s personality. It was very motivational for Silo, because it is not just me being biased as his mom, somebody else sees it too and when I tell him, he thinks I am only saying nice things because I am his mom, I don’t have a choice. So when somebody else tells him, it makes him believe it better, it makes him believe he is that person and therefore motivates him to do better. So it was very motivational for Silo and myself. We left feeling really good.”

Beating the Post-Exam Slump: Why Holiday Mentoring Catch-Ups Matter.

When exam stress is over and students are feeling mentally fatigued, meeting up with their Mentor outside of university and school provides a relaxed, safe space to unpack academic pressure and protect their mental health. It offers a casual accountability check to keep their momentum going and builds deeper, more supportive relationships. 🩵
