It might have been a grey and mizzy day but the sunshine was evident in every smile and giggle that we heard at Angels' Care Centre this past Monday. ☀️ 💛

September 16th is a big day for our family.
It’s a day of celebration and sadness- as our Kenzie turned 7 but our Maddy celebrated another birthday in heaven.

And so we celebrated *for* our Maddy-
With colourful jumping castles,
With bubbles,
With cake,
With balloons,
And with the giggles of over 100 Angels’ Care kiddies who love and appreciate every gift life shares with them.
Thank you to all of you for sharing in Maddy’s birthday party.

Ready for Term 3!

Angels' Care Centre

A very special visit… 💛

Last week, we had a group of 20 very special visitors to The Maddy Mouse House and Angels' Care Centre Pre-Primary School in Howick.
The St John's D.S.G. Grade 1 girls adopted TMMH Library as their outreach programme for 2024. Not only did each girl donate a new or pre-loved book to the library, but the girls spent a morning with the Grade RR Angels’ Care kiddies playing, laughing, puzzle-building, painting, climbing on and off the jungle gym and book-reading (the treehouse was once again a huge hit!). Within no time at all, special bonds were forged and the little 4-year olds quickly became besotted with their new best friends from down the hill.

The morning started with a tour of The Maddy Mouse House Learning Resource Centre and Makenzie and I treated the girls to a book-reading of one of her’s and Maddy’s favourite books; “The Paper Dolls” by Julia Donaldson. A sweet story of creativity, adventure, loss and love… a theme not too dissimilar to a lot of childhoods…

After a wonderfully engaging play session, the girls ate their snacks in the winter sunshine and then said goodbye to their new friends and went on to more adventures.
It was an absolute pleasure having these wonderful St John’s girls visit TMMH and Angels’ Care, and on a more personal note from Rowan Dancer and myself-

It was incredibly heart-warming to watch Makenzie introduce her friends to this very special place, forged in her precious sister’s memory and created with love.

We are certain Maddy Mouse was in every game of tag, every burst of giggles on the swings, in every swish of the paint brushes and each and every beaming smile from the children.

A very special day… 💛

With June’s imminent arrival and winter knocking on the door, The Maddy Mouse House is as busy as ever and we are long overdue an update!
A few months ago, an inspiring bunch of boys from Hilton College had co-ordinated a fundraising project over the Valentines period and between them had raised a significant sum of money. They knew that they wanted the funds to go towards a local project in their immediate community. One that is changing children’s lives. The very same children that these Hilton College boys have spent hours engaged with during their community outreach programmes in the afternoons.
They chose Angels’ Care and entrusted The Maddy Mouse House with their hard -earned Valentines fund.
And, I hope, we have not let them down!

It has been several weeks of sourcing the right resources- puzzles, games, books, toys, shelving, storage- and the right minds and hearts to work on the project (thank you Debbie and Liesl!) but we are almost ready to launch:
💛 🦋 The Maddy Mouse House, Learning Resource Centre 💛🦋
A room filled with books as well as cognitive development puzzles, games and interactive toys. Alongside this, we will workshop with the teachers to ensure the children are benefitting the most they can from this engaging space!

Thank you to the Hilton College boys who continue to give of their time and service to help these children at Angels' Care Centre and to the St Anne's Diocesan College girls who also spend weekday afternoons at the school and have been invaluable help.

Angels' Care Centre and The Maddy Mouse House in action! Behind the enormous smiles and the constant buzz of activity are more than 150 little hearts and minds growing, absorbing and expanding. And learning. 💛

🥳🎈 *Opening Day* 🎈🥳
Today the new Angels' Care Centre Pre-Primary school was officially opened.
Ribbons were cut and important stakeholders in the community and inspiring donors from near and far came together for one single purpose:
To shed light on the importance of Early Childhood Development and Education in South Africa.

Through the incredible example of Angels’ Care’s vision of hope for all under-privileged children in Howick, this community came together “under one roof” and made a real difference.
They touched the lives of over 160 children and in so doing have changed the trajectory of 100’s of lives for generations to come.

Today, I stood amongst the future leaders in our community. The future leaders for our country. And whilst they might only be pint-sized now and full of excitement just to play, draw, and explore…They have minds for greatness and this school will be the first step towards the future that awaits them.

I am beyond excited that The Maddy Mouse House forms part of this vision.
From Monday, Maddy’s library will be filled with enquiring minds, excited little hearts and grubby feet from the playground. Sounds like the perfect combination to me! 💛🤍💛🤍

I don’t want to steal thunder from an amazingly inspiring day, but here are just some snippets from a day filled with happiness…

And before we head off into our weekends, know that The Maddy Mouse House adventure has really only just begun.
And I for one, think that’s the best news ever!

Finally, Thank You Maddy Mouse 💛 🦋 for all the extra tight hugs and squeezes I got from the kiddies today. I felt your arms around my neck and your love in my heart and that is the best gift of all.

The Maddy Mouse House Library has arrived!
💛📚 🐭💛
Today was our last day of set up before we head off on Christmas holidays. There’s still lots of work to be done but the *ROOM IS READY* for the 160 Angels' Care Centre kiddies to arrive come January 2024.

We have had so many wonderful helpers, talented artists and designers, incredible donors through our back-a-buddy campaign, school book drives and friends from far and wide get involved in this special project. It has meant the world to us to be able to create a space that our little Maddy would have LOVED.
An imagination station 🎨
A world of books 📚
A place for comfort 🧸
A room for creativity 💖

Turning to take a last look before I walked out the door today, I could see my little Maddy Mouse curled up in the treehouse surrounded by a fort of pillows and a tower of books, humming a little song to herself and smiling...

We miss her every single day.

We feel truly honoured to be able to help so many kiddies start their literacy journey…
This library will be the stepping stone to a brand new world for them.
