Happy Heritage Day, South Africa 🇿🇦🌿

True heritage isn’t just found in history books, nor on the braai; it lives in the soil, in the wild plants, and in the hands and hearts of our elders.

Today, we celebrate the incredible Gogos—our true wisdom keepers, storytellers, and quiet pillars of community. Sitting together, remembering the old ways, and weaving traditional earth medicine back into daily nourishment is where healing truly begins.

Here’s to honouring where we come from, keeping their stories and sacred knowledge alive, and tending the seeds of the future together. Please keep following Imifino_NPO to support the continued work that Kaz does along with Ambassador Ma Cwengi (Cwengekile Myeni), working with communities to rekindle the old ways, therefore switch back to and taking healing in our own hands.

🚨 URGENT: Help Keep Refugees in Durban Safe & Sheltered 🚨

Swipe ➡️ for donation details 💛

The refugee group has been split between Durban and Lindela Home Affairs Centre in Johannesburg. Those remaining in Durban were removed from Che Guevara Road and are currently being supported in shelters across the city - but they need YOUR help to stay safe from the rain while we secure a short-term re-integration centre to help people find permanent homes and jobs.

Every amount helps keep people sheltered. 🏠

To our extraordinary community,

When this crisis began 4.5 months ago, at Che Guevara, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, none of us could have anticipated the depth of brutality our brothers and sisters would face on our streets. Yet, in the face of targeted hatred, an immediate, unyielding counterweight of human decency rose up to meet it: you!

We want to take this moment to offer our deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to every single person & organisation who has shown up. Whether your contribution was quiet and behind the scenes or out on the street, you have kept people alive!

We need to speak the unvarnished truth about what is happening here:
The people we are defending are legal refugees and asylum seekers. They hold valid legal documentation granted by our government. They sought sanctuary in our country to escape terror from theirs, only to be subjected to horrific violence on our soil.
The physical toll endured by these innocent people has been devastating:
Burns, lacerations, and traumatic wounds from rocks, knobkerries, and group beatings, even children hospitalised.
An individual refugee, deliberately shoved into traffic and struck by moving vehicles .
Debilitating pneumonia, chest infections, and open body sores from weeks of exposure to bitter wet and cold.
History will record that 2026 brought a dark, shameful surge of xenophobic violence and cruelty to our shores.
But history will equally record that we refused to look away.
The hate of a violent faction does not define who we are. The overwhelming majority of us choose humanity, justice, and solidarity.
Thank you for refusing to let apathy win, and for proving every single day that our collective humanity runs deeper than fear.

Siyafana, sonke. We stand together.

This is not over yet.
We will keep you updated as the situation develops.

Kaz, Director Imifino NPO 🙏🏽❤️

Note: for those who have donated and require Section18A certificates, please bear with us, they are all sent out before year end, so you need only send your POP to [email protected] This email is not monitored daily but applications will be collated and attended too in time for your claims.

Alim Leung one of the lead coordinators on site for Siyafana Sonke at Che Guevara Home Affairs, being interviewed by Newzroom Afrika regarding the 250+ documented refugees who are waiting - again - for March and March protesters to arrive.

Last week: six hours of violence. Two children injured. Police overwhelmed.

This week: people are here. More eyes. More monitors. More pressure.

The government placed these families here. The government abandoned them. We need to make our voices heard and demand that there is a resolution for these people who are in our country legally and deserve protection.

🚨 URGENT SECURITY APPEAL - DURBAN 🚨

Refugees at Che Guevara / Moore Road have chosen to remain on site while they consider longer-term options supported by the government and the UNHCR. Leaving now could mean forfeiting those options, so they have decided amongst their leadership to stay where they are.

⚠️ Why this is urgent:
Last week, March and March attacked. Refugees endured six sustained hours of violence. Two men and two children were injured, and police were unable to protect the site. They are coming back this Thursday 10 September.

🛡️ What is needed:
✅ A reliable security company experienced in trained riot protection
✅ A team committed to protecting refugees and supporting police
✅ Non-lethal force only
✅ Coverage for Thursday 10 September and potentially ongoing

👥 Human rights monitors urgently needed on site - volunteers welcome.
This is a dangerous job, but we are asking for anyone who would be willing to record evidence of any human rights violations on the day of the protest.

💛 How you can help:
If you have a connection to a reliable security company, or can volunteer as a human rights monitor on Thursday, please contact us directly. Time is of the essence.
