What an incredible gift Red Rock has received !!!

The Bill.W plant… (Swedish Ivy) An actual clipping of the original plant kept alive by his wife Lois, then passed down from one AA member to another over the years, eventually finding its way from Canada to Panama to Durban.

Much like recovery, the Swedish Ivy does best when shared; when clippings are taken from it, it prospers. Those clippings quickly and easily become new plants. And thus, this single Swedish ivy, has spread its joy across the recovery kingdom, with this tradition being continued at Red Rock… 🙏

The great gift of recovery…. “The Quite Mind”

As we let go of obsession, worry, and the ever present sense of impending doom, many of us are bewildered by the increased calmness of our minds.

We know how to live in a state of crisis, but it often takes a bit of adjustment to become comfortable with stillness.

The price of serenity was the quieting of the constant mental chatter that had taken up so much time…. suddenly we had lots of time on our hands and the ordinary stillness became an extraordinary experience

EMBRACE THE TRANSFORMATION…

There is a great truth in the journey of self-discovery and personal development, which is the idea that we give up the familiar and open ourselves up to the possibility of something far more wonderful. The fundamental aspect of this transformative principle lies in the desire to “let go” of what we are to become what we truly were meant to be….

The journey requires a mindset that embraces growth, learning and adaptation. Holding on to a fixed sense of self can lead to stagnation, while quitting becomes the catalyst for personal development. The beauty of this philosophy lies in its universality; it applies to career changes, relationships, belief systems and personal habits.

In essence, the phrase, “If you leave what you are, you will be who you can be,” serves as a guiding light for those on their way to self-discovery. It encourages us to change our old skin, embrace the unknown, and rely on the innate capacity for growth and transformation within each of us.

Out with the old, in with the new

In order to let go of unhelpful habits, new ones have to be put in their place which provide similar benefits to the mind and body, which is where the practice of yoga comes in.

As well as boosting mental clarity and relaxation, yoga also has the added benefits of increasing the release of endorphins (happy hormones) and making the body a more physically comfortable place to live in.

Looking into our shadows…..

We all have that side of ourselves, the parts of our personalities or specific life experiences that we either want to avoid or don’t want others to see.

Maybe we’re afraid of how it makes us feel or could be difficult to accept that what we see is actually apart of us.

All of this explains our “shadow,” coined and studied by the influential psychiatrist Carl Jung.

It was his belief and theory that the more we repress and ignore our shadow, the more power and influence it has over us. For those in addiction, they have pushed away from their inner shadow for years or decades when their suppressed shadow may be the hidden place of causality in certain behaviours.

What Can Shadow Work Teach Us In Addiction Recovery?

Shadow work helps us confront the parts of ourselves we have been hiding from and avoiding, which may be causative factors in unwanted behaviours. Shadow work can help us accept and give compassion to our addicted selves, so we don’t feel shame!

Ending the weekend with a sunset meditation, and allowing silence to guide our recovery.

Why Meditation? :

Improved inner peace – Meditation enhances the ability to find harmony within yourself and let go of difficult and painful feelings.

Stress reduction – Unmanaged stress is one of the biggest contributors to relapse.

Emotional well-being – Being able to feel positive emotions without the use of alcohol or other drugs helps to sustain long-term recovery.

Fatigue management – Being overly tired is one of the risk factors that is often correlated with relapse.

Just a beautiful day out with our client’s as they immerse themselves in the experience of what has often been described as the purest portal to inner peace - “ Nature”

We have all experienced the powerful effect of nature. Whether you are strolling along the beach, hiking in the mountains, or just puttering around your garden, being outside refreshes and soothes the soul.

For those in recovery, restoring wellness gets a big boost when paired with the sounds, smells, and sensations of nature.

Learning to Live Clean… Just For Today!!!

Especially in the early days of recovery, it can be daunting to think about the effort that lasting change requires. Rather than worrying about whether you’ll be sober in six months or if you’ll be able to consistently follow your recovery plan for the rest of your life, you concentrate on what you can do today.
