Dlala Nje

Dlala Nje Joburg tourism with purpose — inner-city walking tours, corporate immersions and skyline events powering a safe space for Jozi kids.

Challenging perceptions & creating opportunities in the heart of Johannesburg since 2012! Dlala Nje was founded in October 2012 as an organisation that challenges perceptions and creates opportunities. We run inner-city experiences and immersions in some of our city’s most misunderstood areas; Hillbrow, Berea, Yeoville and Johannesburg’s CBD. These tours fully fund the running of two community centers that provide a safe learning environment for children from our corner of the city.

🌆R250 TO CHANGE A LIFE❤️

Every child deserves at least one door to open.

For our CEO Grant Ngcobo that door was Dlala Nje ❤️

What started as a safe place to learn, grow and belong became the pathway to a future he could never have imagined🙏🏽

Today, he leads the very organisation that helped shape his journey 🤩

But this story is bigger than one child.
Right now, there are hundreds of young people walking through our doors carrying the same curiosity, potential and determination.

They need safe spaces. They need opportunities. They need people who believe in them🥹

That is why we are building a community of Dlala Vision Builders ❤️

By contributing just R250 a month, you help create the conditions for more stories like Grant’s to unfold. More leaders. More dreamers. More futures transformed❤️

Because real change doesn’t happen overnight. It happens consistently. Month after month. Child after child🇿🇦

Join the Dlala Vision Builders today and help us turn one success story into a thousand🤩

Today we remember and celebrate the life of Abdullah Ibrahim — a giant of music, culture, and spirit.
In 2014, he walked unannounced into Dlala Nje in Hillbrow.

No entourage. No warning. Just presence.
What followed was something we will never forget.

“When I walked into Dlala Nje the kids had rhythm inherently within. This is an important thing in our lives. Music makes you practice that. Music isn’t only for musicians, its for humanity. It teaches you great discipline and the ability to discover yourself.”

Those words still live here.

They speak to what we see every day in put space: rhythm in young people, creativity in the streets and the power of expression shaping identity and possibility.

Thank you, Abdullah Ibrahim, for the music, the wisdom, and the moment you gave us.

Your legacy will continue in every beat, every voice, every child finding themselves through sound.

🤩No Textbook City: Jozi Geography 🌆

Last week we hosted 40 Grade 12 Geography students from St John's College 🤩

Bringing their Urban Geography course to life right here in the heart of City of Joburg 🌆

Not from a textbook. Not from a slide deck. But from the streets, stories, and lived realities of our city in 2026.

From land use to inequality, infrastructure to informal economies — Jozi remains one of the most complex urban classrooms on the planet.

And this visit continues a relationship with St John’s that spans almost a decade of learning, questioning, and returning to the city to see it as it actually is.

Geography isn’t just about maps. It’s about movement, people, pressure, opportunity, and contradiction — all happening in real time.

To all schools: if your students are studying cities, come and study the one that never sits still!

Johannesburg is not a case study.
It’s a living system.
And we’re waiting to show your learners the truth about the city of gold! 🤩

A big thank you to for inviting Dlala Nje to be part of their Inclusive Community Session and to share our journey with the Emerging Talent at Cisco (ETC) community.

These conversations matter.

Creating connections, challenge perceptions and open doors for young people from communities that are too often overlooked.

Thank you to the Cisco team for giving us the platform to showcase the work, the people, and the potential that exists in Hillbrow every day. ❤️
