Consequences of youth substance abuse

Young people who persistently abuse substances often experience an array of problems, including academic difficulties, health-related problems (including mental health), poor peer relationships, and involvement with the juvenile justice system. Additionally, there are consequences for family members, the community, and the entire society.

Academics

Declining grades, absenteeism from school and other activities, and increased potential for dropping out of school are problems associated with adolescent substance abuse. Hawkins, Catalano, and Miller (1992) cite research indicating that a low level of commitment to education and higher truancy rates appear to be related to substance use among adolescents. Cognitive and behavioral problems experienced by alcohol- and drug-using youth may interfere with their academic performance and also present obstacles to learning for their classmates (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 1992).

Physical health

Injuries due to accidents (such as car accidents), physical disabilities and diseases, and the effects of possible overdoses are among the health-related consequences of teenage substance abuse. Disproportionate numbers of youth involved with alcohol and other drugs face an increased risk of death through su***de, homicide, accident, and illness.

TOGETHER AGAINST
ADDICTION.
SUPPORTING OUR LOVED ONES THROUGH RECOVERY

IN EVERY FAMILY, THERE ARE BATTLES WE FACE TOGETHER .Addiction can impact anyone but with unity and supports , we can overcome its grip, lets stand together as a family to uplift those struggling and guide them towards recovery.

Why family support?
Strength in unity: when we come together, we create a powerful network of love and understanding that can help our loved ones.

How you can help?
Open communication: encourage honest conversation within the family.
Educate yourself: learn about addiction.

Despite the widespread prevalence of addiction, access to treatment and support services remains inadequate for many individuals. Only a fraction of those in need receive appropriate care due to barriers such as stigma, lack of resources, and limited availability of evidence-based treatments. Investing in accessible and comprehensive addiction treatment is essential for supporting recovery and reducing the burden of addiction on society. done
🔹 Prevention efforts are key to addressing drug addiction at its roots. Education, early intervention programs, and community-based initiatives can help reduce substance abuse initiation rates and empower individuals to make informed choices about their health and well-being. By addressing risk factors and promoting protective factors, we can create healthier and safer communities for future generations.
we are here for you!! 🙏💗💞🌹💐
