Change Happens when we Make Change Happen
What good is a man of he cannot make the world a better place. In 1995 The Better World Alliance was founded by Ibrahim Shaik, during his matric year, when he put together a food and medicine drive in his school to help the victims of the Bosnian War. Operation B*R*A*T (Bosnian Relief Appeal Task), was formulated at the back of a classroom during lessons a
nd was a success. In 2006 Natal was devastated by floods. Shaik, who was running his own business at that time approached other corporates to assist in collecting food, clothes, and building materials to help the victims of the disaster. Being well acquainted with the changing weather patterns on earth due to global warming ,he reflected over the damage caused by the storm and Shaik anticipated more lives would be lost in coming years as floods and storms would become more frequent. He believed lives could be saved if people were prepared. After the floods he went on a campaign that would educate the people about how to prepare for floods. He called this initiative the CDC (Crisis And Disaster Centre). Its purpose to prepare people for abnormal weather and also to priced emergency relief during and after floods. In 2009 Shaik expanded the CDC scope to include Abused woman and Children who found themselves thrown out of their homes due to domestic violence. Shaik would often be first at the scene, on a typical Friday or Saturday night helping woman and children who had either fled their homes or they had been thrown out due alcohol intoxicated men. Shaik would attend to injuries, arrange meals for the victims, assist at the SAP (if cases needed to be opened), and do a final handover to Authorities. In some cases temporary accommodation had to be arranged for the night, or transport to take the woman and child/ren to other family members to stay the night. Shaik would work closely with Welfare Departments to follow up on counselling if needed. Later the name changed as yet again the humanitarian work expanded even further :- The Better World Alliance was formed. What do we do?
