Disability Rights Awareness Month | 3 November – 3 December 2026

At Overstrand APD, we believe that every person deserves to be seen, heard, respected and given the opportunity to live a life of dignity and purpose.

Disability does not take away a person's dreams, abilities, talents or right to belong. What often creates barriers is not the disability itself, but a society that does not always make room for everyone.

This month, we are reminded that inclusion must be more than just words. It must be reflected in how we treat one another, the opportunities we create, the spaces we make accessible and the rights we stand up for.

To every person living with a disability, every family, caregiver and person who continues to advocate for equality: you matter, your voice matters, and your rights matter.

Let us move beyond awareness and work towards genuine acceptance, understanding, accessibility and inclusion.

At APD, this is not just a once-a-year message. It is a commitment we should carry with us every single day.

APD sponsored home-based nail technician training for girls with disabilities, giving them the opportunity to learn new skills and gain practical experience in nail care.

Overstrand APD would once again like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the SAMCT – South African Muslim Charitable Trust for their generosity in purchasing the building and undertaking the necessary extensions to accommodate our needs.

We were honoured to have Mr Faried Boltman, representing the Trust, officially hand over the building to Overstrand APD. We were also privileged to welcome the Honourable Mayor of the Overstrand Municipality, Councillor Archie Klaas, who joined us in celebrating this special occasion.

This was indeed a proud and meaningful milestone for our beneficiaries, Management Committee, staff and volunteers. The occasion represents more than just the handover of a building; it symbolises compassion, partnership, generosity and a shared commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Thank you, SAMCT, for believing in our work and investing in a space that will serve and uplift our community for years to come.

Too many people suffer in silence, often not knowing where to turn or what steps to take. By creating awareness and sharing knowledge, we can help people recognise abuse, understand their rights, and know that support is available.This work was made possible by Overstrand APD.
