Rethink Single Use Plastics We aim to be a source of info & news on plastic pollution. We believe progress towards a more sustainable journey is for all ,not just the wealthy.

In 2017 we broadened our focus to include updates & information on all single use plastics not just bags as previously. We are aiming to guide those interested towards a zero waste lifestyle. We believe through small changes one can make a big difference.

This is a great idea.
I wonder if anyone is doing something similar in South Africa?

This sounds Sooo promising.

Stand for Strays Thailand, has launched foldable shelters made of recycled billboards for stray dogs.
Maybe something like this could be viable here in South Africa seeing as we have so very many strays ? Just a thought 🤔

Good idea ,in a first world country.

In Belgium, fruit sold in school programs and public health markets now comes wrapped in a new kind of skin — edible rice paper, laser-cut with perforations and playful designs. These wrappers replace plastic or wax-coated paper entirely and are safe to eat, compost, or simply dissolve under water. But what truly sets them apart is what’s printed on them.

Each wrapper carries tiny cartoon recipes for kids — simple illustrations of how to turn bananas into pancakes, or oranges into fizzy juice spritzers. The goal is to teach nutrition through joy, turning snack time into a soft lesson in food science and imagination. The paper itself is flavored lightly to match the fruit it wraps, offering a seamless bite-through experience without any waste.

These wrappers are designed using plant-based inks and biodegradable rice film that meets food safety standards across the EU. The laser cutting process ensures minimal energy use, and sheets are made in bulk using surplus rice flour from Belgium’s Asian food industries.

This innovation solves two problems at once: wasteful packaging and the growing disconnect between children and natural food preparation. It nudges young eaters to experiment, to play with ingredients, and to waste less — all while keeping the fruit fresh and touch-safe.

Belgium’s rice paper wrappers prove that even the smallest part of a meal — the outer layer — can be reimagined to teach, nourish, and disappear without a trace.

That really isn't very much money considering all the litter they cause.

That really isn't very much money considering all the litter they cause.

AG Bonta announced that plastic bag makers agreed to collectively pay the state nearly $1.8 million and halt plastic bag sales in California after selling the rest of their existing stock.

🇮🇳 Starting today, 2 October 2025, the Indian state of Kerala is officially banning single-use plastics in its famous hilly tourist destinations such as Munnar, Thekkady, Vagamon, Athirappally, and Wayanad, as well as at weddings, hotels, restaurants, and official events.

🚫Items no longer allowed include plastic water bottles under 5 litres, soft-drink bottles under 2 litres, disposable plates, cups, food containers, straws, sachets, and bakery boxes.

💧To support this transition, Kerala is setting up water kiosks in tourist areas and encouraging visitors to switch to reusables like steel, glass, and copper bottles.
This bold move shows how policy and community action can work hand-in-hand to protect nature. 🌱

This is an impressive amount of trash they are stopping reach the ocean.I just wonder if the governments of these countries like Honduras, Jamaica etc spend any time or money educating their people about not littering in the first place?
