Regular growth checks help you and your healthcare worker see if your child is growing well and spot any concerns early.

Take your child’s Road to Health Book to every clinic visit and ask, “Is my child growing well?”

To every single person who opened their hearts and contributed toward Auntie Marlene's farewell: thank you.
​Watching her family carry such a heavy burden was heartbreaking, but seeing how this community rallied around them has been nothing short of a miracle. Because of your incredible generosity, prayers, and messages, the funds needed for her funeral have been completely covered.
​Auntie Marlene gave so much of herself to others, and seeing the way everyone stepped up to honor her shows just how deeply she was loved. You didn't just help lift a financial weight; you wrapped her family in a blanket of love and grace when they needed it most.
​Thank you for standing by them, for walking this painful journey alongside them, and for proving once again how powerful true community and compassion are.

As a friend and fellow community worker, I am reaching out to our town today with a heavy heart. Many of you might have seen the flyer going around, but I want to share a bit about who Aunty Marlene (Mamma Tree from Tree of Hope) really was, because so much of her work was done quietly behind the scenes.
Aunty Marlene dedicated her life to the children in our town who needed it most.
When children were removed from difficult situations, she was the one quietly stepping in with clothes, toys, and care packages.
Every single year, she organized a massive Back-to-School drive, securing uniforms, shoes, and stationery so local kids could walk into school with pride.
She stood up against child abuse during Child Protection Week every year and organized annual Easter events so vulnerable children felt loved, safe, and celebrated.
She quietly paid for children to go on school camps when their families couldn't afford it, so no child was ever left out.
She gave so much of her heart to our town's children, but tragically, there was no funeral policy in place. Her family is now facing an urgent deadline of Monday to settle the outstanding funeral fees of R18 685,00 so her send-off can happen next week.
I am asking our community to please take hands as friends and neighbors to help her family through this. Even a small donation of R50 makes a huge difference if enough of us come together.

In Loving Memory of a True Community Angel: Aunty Marlene Marais from Tree of Hope
Today, our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to a deeply loved pillar of our community. Aunty Marlene, of the Tree of Hope NPO, passed away this morning.
Words can barely capture the profound impact she had. She was the one who was always there, especially for the children facing the hardest circumstances. When kids were taken away, it was Marlene who made sure to supply and help them with clothes, toys, and the essential items they needed.
Every single year, she spearheaded a massive Back-to-School drive for the kids—relentlessly connecting with suppliers to secure school uniforms, shoes, and stationery so every child could walk into the classroom with pride. From her annual Easter celebrations that brought so much joy to the children, to wearing and handing out the green ribbon during Child Protection Week every May/June to take a stand against child abuse, she never stopped creating moments where these kids felt safe, celebrated, and loved.
Her compassion didn't stop there. She was a silent guardian for so many, quietly making sure children had the funds to go on school camps and could participate fully, even as her heart broke in secret for everything those children were going through.
As an NPO leader, she was an absolute rock. She offered invaluable advice and, most importantly, words of encouragement. When resources were tight and we felt bad about what we couldn't do, she would remind us of what we could do and always lifted us up.
She was a masterful networker, always inviting us to functions to build the bridges we needed to truly take hands and help our community.
Aunty Marlene, we will always remember you for your fierce heart, your tireless dedication, and your unwavering belief in the children of this community.
Rest in Peace, Marlene. Your work, your legacy of hope, and your love will live on in every child you helped and every person you inspired.
We will keep her family, friends, and the Tree of Hope community in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

✨ Anything is possible when a brave mom raises brave kids.

At We Care, we have the profound privilege of witnessing true resilience every single day. We look back at where some of our young ladies started—breaking free from abusive relationships, finding themselves pregnant, and facing a future full of uncertainty. But their stories didn’t end there. Today, we get to share their incredible testimonials of bravery. Against all odds, these young moms have fought for their futures. Some have completed their schooling, and at the end of September, we get to watch them celebrate their Matric Farewell! 🎓✨Seeing them "glow up" from the very first day they walked through our doors into the amazing, confident young ladies they are today is the greatest reward. They are proof that your past does not define your future.
