Tharros Family Centre renders services to children and families in the Hankey and surrounding areas. Therapeutic Care to vulnerable children. Charity shop.

Tharros Family Centre renders services to children and families in Hankey and surrounding areas. Our projects and programs include:

Preschool for 3-to-5-year-olds. Foster and Safety family support, placement and social work services. Skills Develpment (sewing, gardening). Mother2Mother support group for teenage and young pregnant moms. Protective Behaviours in primary schools. Effective Parenting

training. We welcome volunteers who have a passion for children, and we seek assistance with any extra mural activity that promotes their wellbeing and development: art, music, dance, drama, sport, outings, and more. Youth Day

💛 Child Protection Week – South Africa 💛

This week forces us to face a painful truth.

Not every child in South Africa grows up feeling safe.

Some are hurt in silence.
Some are ignored when they speak.
Some are carrying fear long before they understand what it means.

And too many are learning too early that the world does not always protect them.

Child Protection Week is not just a campaign.
It is a reminder that a child’s safety should never depend on luck, silence, or circumstance.

It asks something of all of us:
To notice.
To listen.
To speak up.
To protect.

Because abuse thrives where there is silence — and protection begins where silence ends.

At Thárros, we support children through our Protective Behaviours program to recognise unsafe situations, trust their voices, and respond in ways that protect themselves.

Today we celebrate the strength, love, and resilience of families in all forms. ❤️

At Thárros Family Centre, we see every day how strong families help children grow with confidence, safety, and hope for the future. Through homework support, parenting programs, teen support groups, holiday clubs, and community initiatives, we are working together to build stronger communities — one family at a time.

This International Day of Families, we honour the parents, grandparents, caregivers, foster families, mentors, and community members who continue showing up for children, even when life is difficult.

Because when families are supported, children thrive. 🌱

Celebrating Mothers

Mothers shape the world in the smallest, everyday moments.
In the encouragement, the patience, the resilience, the showing up again and again.

Today we celebrate the women raising children, nurturing families, creating safe spaces, and leading with love — often in ways that go unseen.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms and mother figures. 🤍

Some come carrying the weight of homes under pressure — where survival comes first.

In those spaces, learning is not simple.

That’s why this work matters.

At Tharros Family Centre, May means more learning, more laughter, and more moments that matter with the children and families we support in Hankey.

📚 Homework Support Update

This month, 29 children have attended our daily homework support sessions at Hankey Primary School.

Alongside helping with schoolwork and building confidence in learning, we also make space for something just as important — play time. A chance for children to move, laugh, and just be children again.

That’s why our homework support programme matters.
We walk alongside children as they learn, helping them understand, stay motivated, and not fall behind.
