Use-It leads the way in green economy

HCRDA member Use-It was recently visited by the eThekwini Municipality as part of an oversight tour highlighting the impact of the Hammarsdale Waste Beneficiation Centre.

The centre, a flagship initiative under the City’s Circular Economy Programme, transforms waste into economic opportunities, supporting over 300 direct and indirect jobs in the local waste beneficiation sector.

Designed as a Circular Economy Hub, the facility showcases the full waste value chain - from collection and sorting to product development, enterprise incubation, and sustainable manufacturing. Key operations include recyclable buy-back initiatives, the Electronic Cemetery for responsible e-waste dismantling, and Green Lighting recycling for batteries and lighting components.

Through this innovative approach, USE-IT continues to drive green job creation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic development in Hammarsdale and surrounding communities.

What people don't see...

The sorting before the clean streets.
The lifting before the cleared spaces.
The coordination before the change becomes visible.

They see the results.
They don't always see the effort behind it - the teamwork, the physical work, the leadership in action.

This is the part that doesn't always make the headline - but it's where the real work happens. 🌿 ♻️

🍎🌭 KwaNdengezi Market Day in Action 🌿

Entrepreneurship met teamwork as the KwaNdengezi GL2E team hosted a successful Market Day filled with opportunity and community spirit. 💚 The team organised themselves into five business areas: fast food, beauty hair salon, pantry and eggs, cosmetics, and fruit and vegetables — each contributing to the day’s success.

Our EnviroChamps proudly demonstrated how skills are being transformed into real business opportunities. The day ran smoothly, sales were strong, and the team proved that when we work together, we achieve more together. ✨
