Kwalata Community Development Initiative KCDI are actively involved in rural township communities, assisting with development

The Kwalata community development initiative (KCDI) focus on the development of previously disadvantaged communities in Hammanskaal. We supports youth development and existing entrepreneurs, artists and crèches (Pre-schools). The support is designed to facilitate funding, support in terms of infrastructure, equipment and marketing, stimulating sales or securing a sound customer base.

What makes this even more special is that so many of these talented athletes come from Hammanskraal, home to South Africa’s only dedicated speed roller-skating track! 🇿🇦

🚁🌍 Drones, discovery and international inspiration!
Learners at Steve Biko Secondary School got a glimpse of the future during an exciting drone session with SPOTS (Strategic Protection of Threatened Species). Engeneering students visiting from Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands and Italy showed off latest drone technology and how drones work, the engineering behind them, and the skills needed to become drone pilots. The visit also opened conversations about career opportunities and the importance of protecting our natural heritage. 🌱

🌍🦁 THE FUTURE IS WILD AND FULL OF OPPORTUNITY! 🌿🚀

What a fantastic Career Expo at Rethabile Primary School! KCDI and the Kwalata team had the privilege of inspiring young minds and showing them that tourism and conservation create far more careers than they may imagine!

Through the story of Kwalata and Dinokeng Game Reserve, we explored careers ranging from nature conservation, field guiding, wildlife management and environmental education to hospitality, chefs, tourism, marketing, administration, events and entrepreneurship.

And it doesn’t stop there! 🛠️🏗️ Growing tourism destinations need builders, plumbers, electricians, welders, carpenters, mechanics, landscapers and other skilled tradespeople to build and maintain lodges, camps and tourism infrastructure.

Our message to the learners was simple: You don’t have to leave your community to dream big. Tourism, conservation and development can create real opportunities right here in our region.

A huge thank you to Rethabile Primary School for creating a platform where young people can discover what is possible. 👏🌱

🙌 Helping Hands When It Matters Most‼️ ❤️

Following the devastating fire that destroyed a family’s home the first contribution, donating Maxi bricks and pre-loved clothing to assist the family as they begin the difficult journey of rebuilding their lives.

Every contribution, no matter how big or small, can make a meaningful difference during this challenging time. 🧱👕❤️

The call for support is still open. Anyone who would like to contribute towards helping the family rebuild and recover is welcome to lend a helping hand.

Whether it is building materials, clothing, household items or any other form of assistance, every act of kindness is greatly appreciated.

Let’s continue to stand together as a community and bring a little hope to a family going through a very difficult time. 🙏❤️

🏠 HELP US BUILD A HOME IN HAMMANSKRAAL.

On 2 September 2026 a devastating fire destroyed the Tin Shack home at Bridge-view, Hammanskraal. The family stayed here since 1994, also lost all their belongings.

The household is headed by pensioner and grandmother Christina Mpepele and includes young adults, children aged 10, 7 and 5, and a four-week-old baby. They lost almost everything and urgently need our community’s support.

Through the Kwalata Community Development Initiative (KCDI), we are appealing to businesses, organisations, churches and individuals to help us build the family a new 12m × 4m brick home.

We urgently need donations of maxi bricks, cement, sand, stone, roofing materials, windows, a door, building materials and labour. Donations of food, clothing, bedding and baby necessities are also greatly appreciated.

🙏 Every bag of cement, every brick and every contribution will help put a roof over this family’s heads.

When Gauteng initiated the vision for DGR, the goal was clear: create a conservation and tourism destination that would protect our natural heritage while creating jobs, investment and opportunities for local communities and while making nature accessible for all.

Today, that vision has become a reality with over 1,000 permanent jobs and close to 150 tourism operations developed across the reserve.

Conservation and tourism working together can transform a region, restore wildlife, create sustainable livelihoods and make our incredible natural heritage accessible to everyone.
