How do some of Africa’s top predators live side by side without constant conflict?
Using thousands of camera-trap photos from Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, researchers explored how lions, leopards, and spotted hyenas share space and time.
The species use the same areas, but not always at the same time, with hyaenas generally appearing after lions and leopards have passed through an area.
The findings reveal a fine balance of following, avoiding, and coexisting, showing that animal interactions can be more subtle than they first appear.
