Greytown, a small country town in an unpolluted area of the KZN Midlands, surrounded by farmlands, has a really special senior citizens home. Arcadia Home for the Aged was established in 1983 in response to a need by the community for a safe home for their parents and relatives. The management board is comprised of locals and most of the staff are locals. Our home, situated in a residential area,
accommodates 46 residents, who are treated with much love and compassion by very dedicated and caring staff. Qualified nursing sisters are on daily duty ensuring that the health of residents is continuously monitored creating a warm and homely atmosphere where residents can spend the rest of their lives. We strive to ensure that they are treated with dignity, love and compassion and encourage family to visit any time as there are no restricted visiting hours. The home is secure and monitored by a local security company. Night staff ensure that any health problems are rapidly attended to and the home is next door to a local doctor. With the exception of the frail care unit, each resident is accommodated in a private room fitted with its own basin, side-table, desk and two chairs. There is a large communal lounge and dining room overlooking the garden and the forested Greytown Hill and residents can eat and relax during the day on a shady patio. A beautiful log fire keeps the lounge cosy during the winter months. All meals are prepared on the premises in our well equipped kitchen. There is a hairdressing salon and library and daily activities are arranged for those who want a change of scenery. The Arcadia bus is a familiar sight in Greytown used for shopping and outings. For the fit and healthy, Arcadia is close enough to town for residents to walk to shops and restaurants and town is a hive of activity during the early mornings and late afternoon’s when walkers and runners of all ages and both sexes get some safe exercise and fresh air. The town itself is being run by a very dedicated council and boasts all of the vibrant sporting and social facilities one would expect in a country community – all offered at affordable rates.
