From designer sketch to carnival spectacle ✨
Now that the dust has settled on the Follow your heART Cape Town Carnival, we have the chance to look back at the story behind the Boldly Beautiful Dream Doll transformation that has become a celebration of fashion as Art, craftsmanship and collaboration on a monumental scale. 🎭
Inspired by Cape Town Carnival Champion, designer Stephen van Eeden’s custom design for muse Melissa Nayimuli, Miss Universe South Africa 2025, the carnival team transformed the existing Dream Doll float into a bold new carnival icon. Stephen’s elegant sketch and glamorous gown became the creative foundation for the entire build, guiding everything from the sculpted bodice and dramatic sleeves to the glittering crown and striking final details. 👑
Behind the scenes, an incredible collective of creatives brought the vision to life - from fabrication lead Gina Heyer Harper and the fabrication team, to the floatbuilding team, painters, costume team, artisans and production crews who worked tirelessly to transform the Dream Doll piece by piece using upcycled materials, innovative techniques and endless craftsmanship. ✨
Alongside the larger-than-life float stood Melissa Nayimuli herself, wearing Stephen van Eeden’s original design, creating a powerful connection between couture fashion and carnival artistry.
These photographs capture more than just the final result - they celebrate the people, process and passion behind one of the most beautiful moments of the Follow your heART Cape Town Carnival 2026. 💫
