THANK YOU TO THE DRIVERS OF THE SOCIAL EMPLOYMENT FUND.

During this past week two problem areas of crumbling roads were addressed by SEF. The one was the intersection at Bathurst and Dundas Street and the second in Hill Street, just below Beaufort Street.

We at MBRA are grateful to all the wonderful organizations that are making a difference to our City.

UPDATE ON PROGRESS AT THE STATION CIRCLE :
It is generally good news, with the proposed opening seemingly to be on Friday, 20 March 2026. Don't however take my word on it, because could change.

An unanswered question however, is: "Will the section between the circle and the Kingswood 4-way stop be next? If anyone has information on this could they please share it with the MBRA.

Mziyanda Bulani represented the MBRA at the Sarah Baartman Pre-Growth and Development Summit Workshop in Gqeberha on 23 February. The workshop was organised by the Eastern Cape Socio Economic Consultative Council (ECSECC).

The workshop was held in order to engage stakeholders and discuss the Provincial Development Plan for 2030 and long-term planning to prepare for the upcoming Growth and Development Summits. Under discussion were district achievements, challenges and solutions.

It’s been a busy week for the MBRA. Members of the Exco attended the Makana Tourism AGM. There are many synergies between the two groups and we certainly want the same thing: a thriving city and community.

If you are a local business, institution, organisation or a resident that has some drive and good ideas, please become an active member of Makana Tourism. The number of active members has dwindled and we need to work together to promote our city and create a positive image of the city for residents and visitors.

Water scarcity in Makhanda

Please be advised that Howisons Poort, which serves the western side of Makhanda, has very low water levels that are dropping rapidly. Without significant rainfall and with limited pumping capacity from Settlers Dam, demand is outstripping current supply.

Residents are urged to use water sparingly.
