Cynthia's Soup Kitchen - Masincedane

Cynthia's Soup Kitchen - Masincedane NA Xolani resident, Cynthia Belwana, founded the soup kitchen along with Captain Masala of the Salvation Army in 2006.

In 2007, Cynthia began running the soup kitchen from her home, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and feeding up to 150 people a day. Cynthia’s open-door policy and nurturing nature ensured that members of the community always felt welcomed and cared for, and people young and old would come from as far as Joza and Hlalani to get meals. Over the years, the soup kitchen has received generous suppor

t from the local Grahamstown community, with special attention from Rhodes students who established the Masincedane Society in order to generate sustained student support and engagement. In July 2015, Cynthia tragically passed away. Her daughters Thabisa and Nandipha, and son Anele, are determined to keep the Soup Kitchen operating, and your support makes this possible.
