🚔 Consistency is Key 🚔

🔥 Over 150 patrol hours were completed this weekend by Grabouw NHW volunteers.

🌿 During the quieter hours, our focus shifted to public open spaces, bush-covered areas and places not easily reached. For our team, it was just another day in the bush because that is what we do together in our free time 💪🌙

👣 In the quieter streets, silent foot patrols were conducted with an element of surprise 🤫🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ The previous evening we came across several people on foot who were not from the particular areas, while these neighbourhoods had already experienced early morning break-in attempts 🚨🏠

⚠️ Alongside this, our normal patrol duties continued. Dangerous weapons were removed from the streets 🔪 an uphill battle that we refuse to give up on.

🚔 We will continue showing up, remaining visible and working to make our community safer.

💥 This weekend again reminded us why visibility matters. Street fights were de-escalated and lives protected ❤️‍🩹

👥 In one incident, we arrived to find a crowd of approximately 30 people, tensions high and one person already on the ground 😔 Within 15 minutes ⏱️ calm had been restored and all parties had dispersed peacefully 🙏

🌙 While many sleep, volunteers continue working to protect and serve the community we call home 🏡

👏 Thank you to every volunteer who gave up family time and sleep to make a difference.

Last night was a busy evening, busy in a good way but also a difficult reminder that Grabouw youth and our community still face many challenges. 🚨

Grabouw NHW responded to three separate street fights reported almost simultaneously. While de-escalating one situation, another call came in and then a third incident was encountered where two boys had reportedly been stabbed. ⚠️

While standing off from the third incident, our patrollers walked directly into a domestic violence incident where a husband was assaulting his wife. 💔

During the evening, our team was also assisting an intoxicated woman and her 10-year-old child after concerns were raised about alleged abuse within the family. Unfortunately, while trying to help, we were criticised and accused by intoxicated individuals of "earning money". The reality is that not a single member of Grabouw NHW benefits financially from this work. 🙏

We cannot be everywhere at once and we will not split our team when doing so places our patrollers at risk. Safety remains a priority. 🦺

What stood out last night was the ongoing concern around conflict among our youth and within our community, a fight first and ask questions later mindset. We do our best to educate and de-escalate but lasting change requires more than patrols alone. 🤝

Despite the challenges, we also met people who thanked us and acknowledged the work being done. That support matters. 🙏

To our patrollers, many of whom are youth themselves, thank you! You have chosen a different path and continue to be part of the change our community needs. Your dedication does not go unnoticed. 👏

Thank you for showing appreciation of our team and network 💚 We truly glad we could assist and that Dane is safe with his family.

Dane has been found. Unharmed, clothed, and fed by a Roseline and the community of Grabouw.

It is in times like these that you truly see the best in humanity. In such a desperate search, key people worked tirelessly and willingly, with so much drive, love, commitment and compassion, to help bring about a happy ending to a heartbreaking situation.

We want to ESPECIALLY thank Arlene from Grabouw Neighbourhood Watch for putting us in contact with soooo many networks, assisting endlessly and constantly in helping share information non stop!

Thank you to saps of grabouw and the nhw of Grabouw for your extensive support and efforts in your searches.

To the entire Grabouw community, your sense of community is absolutely off the charts and a spectacular example of what real humanity looks like.
I do not think we could ever thank you enough for your extensive efforts in helping to find Dane, and for the way you embraced this situation without judgement.
You as a community can be incredibly proud of your neighbourhood watch, field workers and yourselves for the light and love you shared so freely!

To the security companies in Strand, and especially Strand Neighbourhood Watch, thank you, thank you, thank you for helping in the search.
Once again, a community network stepped up and actively helped look for Dane. You have shown us what can happen when communities stand together and form strong networks to keep people safe.

The sacrifices you make for your communities are extraordinary, and a shining example to others of the magic that can happen when people unite for a common cause.
May you and your fellow grabouw and surrounding neighbourhood watches grow from strength to strength, be acknowledged, honoured, uplifted, loved, and prosper through the communities you serve.

During times like these, when emotions run high and everyone searches for answers and explanations, I would also like to say this, we often speak about mental health awareness.. now is the time to show that kindness in practice.
A family has gone through an incredibly difficult moment and now has to face the world again with dignity.

Behind this story are real people who deserve compassion, respect, and grace after what they have endured.
Let us not lose the kindness that carried this search. There is still a long road of healing ahead, and your continued love, prayers, respect, and support will go an enormously long way to help the healing process.

Dane McDonald has been found safe and reunited with his family.

A huge thank you to the Grabouw community for staying alert, sharing information and assisting. Once again, our network did what it does best and helped bring someone home safely 🙏

This missing person was reportedly seen on Sir Lowry’s Pass on Friday, 15 May at approximately 18:00 by people sitting in the traffic caused by the MVA 🚨 He was also reportedly seen near Steenbras Dam.

Let’s assist the family by keeping a lookout and sharing any confirmed information that may help bring him home safely 🙏
