New benches are now installed along the boardwalk, providing a welcome rest stop for our elderly residents and anyone wanting to pause and enjoy the beautiful views.

𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 - 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟮

The job continued this past Friday. A big shout out to AgriLand SSK East London for donating 30 x 1.4 m wooden dropper poles, and to each volunteer who sacrificed their morning to install them.

A special mention to Ian Field for preparing every single pole by hand in advance of installation!

And as always, Shelly's Coffee & Craft kept our volunteers caffeinated and in good spirits.

𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 - 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆

Ahead of Mandela Day tomorrow, a small group of Ratepayers got hands-on and replaced the first section of missing poles along our boardwalk. These widening gaps have been a increasing safety concern for the walkers, joggers, and families who use it daily.

A special shout out to:

Today I attended the public hearing concerning the proposed name changes. I spoke specifically about Gonubie and that we oppose the suggested change. The meeting was conducted in Xhosa that made it very difficult to follow the proceedings. It is my view that this is not public participation if a section of the community cannot follow what is said by the facilitators.

A heartfelt thank you to every single person who came out for our dog walk this past Saturday. It was a lovely morning, despite the gloom!

𝗜𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗻𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗲'𝘀 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗻𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗲, not at BCMM City Hall. Come to us. Listen to us. Public participation should take place in the community affected.

Furthermore, we call on officials to seriously reconsider the use of Sports, Arts and Culture funding for a renaming that amounts to a minor spelling change. Gonubie's local community has a real need for a proper sports facility, with ablution blocks. Would this funding not be more impactful if redirected into a project that benefits the residents?

We are not against progress. We are against a process that sidelines the community it claims to serve.
