Door of Hope opened a 'Baby Saver Box' in April 1999. Door of Hope, which opened a 'Baby Box' in 1999, runs three care houses with facilities for caring for 66 abandoned babies at any one time. On average 9 babies a month come to Door of Hope; the baby box is not the only way babies arrive at Door of Hope, sometimes it’s via the police or hospitals. Some babies that are placed in the box are only

hours old. But these figures are only the tip of the iceberg and the number of children saved is still dwarfed by those who die of neglect and abandonment: thrown in rubbish bins, left in an open field or flushed down a toilet.

‘My aunties call it ‘baby fat but my rugby coach calls it front-row potential! I'm not saying I could beat the Barbarians... but have they finished a whole bottle in under 3 minutes?’

While the Springboks take on the Barbarians, our little Baby Bok is preparing for a big match of his own... growing up safe, healthy, and loved. The good news? He doesn't have to do it alone. Our chubby little Baby Bok may not be selected for the national squad just yet, but every day he's winning because caring supporters make sure he has everything he needs to thrive. Just like the Springboks rely on their supporters, the babies at Door of Hope rely on monthly donors to be part of their team. This weekend, while you're backing the Boks, consider backing a Baby Bok too. Every BabyBok needs a strong support team, ours just happens to be called LifeChangers.
Join our LifeChangers Team and become a monthly donor - https://doorofhope.co.za/get-involved/lifechangers/
Every monthly gift helps provide formula, nappies, clothing, medical care, and a safe, loving home for vulnerable babies.

Youth Day 2026 - Celebrating Hope, Courage and Potential

Today, we honor the brave young people of South Africa whose courage and determination shaped our nation's future.

At Door of Hope, Youth Day reminds us that every child deserves the opportunity to dream, grow, and thrive. Through love, care, and support, we are privileged to walk alongside vulnerable children and young people as they discover their worth and build brighter futures.

As we remember the sacrifices of the youth of 1976, let us also commit to investing in the next generation—empowering them with hope, education and opportunities to reach their full potential.

WANT TO ADOPT?

Every journey to a forever family begins somewhere. ❤️
Many caring people contact Door of Hope asking how they can adopt a baby.
While we share your desire to see every child grow up in a loving family, Door of Hope is not authorised to facilitate adoptions. Adoption services in South Africa are conducted through the Department of Social Development and accredited Child Protection Organisations.

But there is another way you can help. Before a child is reunited with family, placed in foster care, or adopted, they need a safe place to belong. They need loving caregivers, nutritious meals, medical care, clean clothing, and a nurturing environment.

That is where Door of Hope steps in. By donating to Door of Hope, you become part of each child's journey—providing hope, care, and stability during one of the most important seasons of their life - www.doorofhope.co.za/donate
Together, we can ensure that every child is loved while they wait for what comes next.

💛 Because every child matters.

A beautiful newborn baby was safely relinquished into the care of the Baby Saver at Door of Hope. Little one, we welcome you with open arms, hearts full of love, and prayers for a bright and hopeful future.

To your mommy: we send you our deepest prayers and compassion. We know that this decision could not have been easy. Thank you for choosing your baby's safety and giving your child the opportunity for care, protection, and a future filled with hope. May God surround you with comfort, strength, peace, and healing during this difficult time. You are in our prayers.

This precious life is a reminder of why Baby Savers are so important and why more are needed throughout our communities. They save lives, offer hope in moments of crisis, and create a pathway to safety for babies who might otherwise be at risk.

Please join us in praying for this beautiful child, for the brave mother who chose safety, and for the continued expansion of Baby Savers so that every baby has access to a safe place and a second chance. We welcome a precious newborn baby into our home.

We were contacted by compassionate individuals who were deeply concerned for the safety and wellbeing of a vulnerable little one.
For two days, this family tirelessly reached out to social service organisations, desperately trying to find safety and protection for this child. They went out of their way to seek help and ensure this baby would be placed somewhere safe, loved, and cared for.

After exhausting every avenue they could, they contacted us again. Even though we are already filled to capacity, we knew we could not say no to a vulnerable little life in need of love and care. Today, this sweet baby is safe, warm, and surrounded by love.

We are so grateful for people who choose compassion, who step forward when it matters most, and who remind us that even in difficult circumstances, kindness still exists.

Please keep this little one in your thoughts and prayers as a new journey begins.

I never thought my life would turn into this. I never thought I would be the girl people whispered about, the one they pointed at when they thought I couldn’t hear. I was only seventeen when it happened. I was walking home from the river when a man I trusted took everything from me. After that night, I was never the same.
When my belly began to grow, my family turned their faces away. My mother cried, my father shouted, and the elders said I had brought shame to our home. They told me to leave. I remember standing outside our hut with nothing but a small bag and the sound of my mother’s sobs fading behind me.
I went to the city, hoping someone would help me. I found the social workers’ office and told them my story. They looked tired, busy, and cold. One of them said they were understaffed, that I should give the baby to my family for now and come back later if I still wanted adoption. But I had no family anymore. I walked out with tears burning my eyes.
When my baby came, I was alone. The nurses looked at me with disgust when I said I wanted to place my baby for adoption. One of them said, “You made this baby, now you must look after it.” Another shook her head and muttered that girls like me never learn. Their words cut deeper than any wound.
Days turned into weeks. I tried to care for my baby, but I had no food, no home, no strength left. I begged for help again, but the doors of social services stayed closed. I was hungry, tired, and cold. My baby cried through the nights, and I cried with him.
One night, I sat under a tree, holding him close. I thought about leaving him in the bush, somewhere safe, where someone kind might find him. I told myself I would wait until they did. But as I sat there, something fluttered in the wind—a piece of paper. I picked it up. It was a pamphlet, worn and dirty, but I could still read the words: 𝓑𝓪𝓫𝔂 𝓢𝓪𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓑𝓸𝔁 – 𝓐 𝓼𝓪𝓯𝓮 𝓹𝓵𝓪𝓬𝓮 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓫𝓪𝓫𝔂
My heart pounded. I knew the town it mentioned. It wasn’t far. I wrapped my baby in the only blanket I had and started walking. The road was long and dark, but I kept going. I whispered to him that everything would be okay, that I loved him more than life itself.
When I reached the building, it was quiet. The night air was cold, and my hands trembled. Then I saw it—the box. A small light shone above it, bright and warm against the darkness. It felt like the light was calling to me, telling me that this was the place, that this was hope.
I held my baby close one last time, pressing his tiny face against my neck. I whispered a prayer, thanking God for leading me here. My tears fell on his blanket as I placed him gently inside. The light above the box seemed to glow brighter, as if heaven itself was watching.
As I stepped back, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time—peace. For the first time since that terrible night, I believed that maybe, just maybe, there was still goodness in this world.
I walked away into the darkness, but behind me, the light of the baby saver box kept shining. A light of hope. A light that saved not just my baby—but me too.

Today at Door of Hope was one of those days that made us laugh… and then quietly tear up a little too.

Little *Liam decided that breakfast oatmeal was not for eating — it was clearly hair gel. By the time the caregivers turned around, he had proudly “styled” not only himself, but also baby *Ava sitting next to him. *Ava’s response? Absolute delight. She clapped like he was a professional salon stylist.

Meanwhile, tiny *Noah discovered his reflection in the mirror for the very first time. After spending nearly 10 minutes flirting with “the handsome baby in the mirror,” he finally leaned forward and gave himself a kiss. The whole nursery burst into laughter. And then there was little *Mia, who waddled around all afternoon carrying one tiny shoe… refusing to let anyone wear it. Not even herself. We still have no idea where the second shoe is.

These moments are funny.
They’re precious.
They’re healing.

But behind every giggle is a child who was once abandoned, vulnerable, and in need of safety, love, and care.

Right now, we are caring for 65 precious children at Door of Hope Children’s Mission. Every bottle, every nappy, every warm bed, every cuddle, every doctor’s visit, every midnight rocking session — happens because ordinary people choose to help.

The babies may never understand what a “monthly donor” is…
But they feel it every single day.

They feel it when there’s milk in the bottle.
When there’s medicine when they’re sick.
When there’s a caregiver there to hug them tight
When there’s safety instead of fear.

Become a LifeChanger today and help us continue saying “yes” to babies who need hope - https://doorofhope.co.za/get-involved/lifechangers/

Because today’s funny little moments become tomorrow’s beautiful futures.
