Directions
From Giyani - take R81 South, pass Adolf Sunduza Bridge - On your right there is Kremetart Suburb and on the left you pass the Traffic Police Offices. After the Traffic Police offices you will find the Road which goes to the East (Phalaborwa). Turn left and proceed to the East, you will then pass Ngove, Nkomo, and then you will be in Shawela (28km from Giyani, Approx 15 - 20 mins Drive). Parents Raise Concerns Over Alleged Learner Treatment at Mukula High School, Call for Department Intervention

Concerns have been raised over alleged challenges at Mukula High School, with a parent calling for intervention from the Department of Education.

The parent, who requested to remain anonymous, claimed that there are serious issues at the school that require urgent attention from relevant authorities.

According to the parent, a Grade 10 learner was allegedly prevented from writing a Xitsonga examination after missing school due to illness. The learner reportedly visited a doctor and returned with a medical letter as proof of being unwell, but was still allegedly not allowed to write the assessment by the teacher involved.

The parent expressed concern that language subjects play an important role in a learner’s academic progression and that learners should be given an opportunity to complete their assessments, especially when valid reasons for absence are provided.

“This is not an isolated case. The school needs intervention from the department because learners’ futures are at stake,” the parent said.

The allegations come after other concerns were raised regarding Grade 12 learners at the same school being allegedly prevented from writing June examinations.

The Department of Education has not yet responded to the allegations. Giyani View will provide updates once more information is available.

The police in Limpopo have arrested a 34-year-old suspect who allegedly stabbed and killed his girlfriend in Shawela Village, Giyani policing precinct, on Sunday, 17 August 2025.

The suspect was traced and apprehended on Monday, 18 August 2025, at about 08:00, while hiding in Nsavulani village, another section of Shawela Village. This swift arrest follows the directive by the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, who ordered that every available resources be mobilised to ensure the swift apprehension of the suspect.

The Limpopo SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Hadebe, has commended the investigating team for their rapid response and also expressed appreciation to community members who co-operated with the police by providing positive information that led to the suspect’s capture.

“This case is a clear demonstration that when police and the community work together, justice is served. I want to applaud all those who came forward with positive information that led to the imminent arrest of this ruthless suspect,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The suspect will appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, facing a charge of murder.
