MONDAY MOTIVATION | THE POWER OF COLLECTIVE ACTION
Trade unionism was born out of the need for workers to unite against unequal power in the workplace, recognising that a collective voice carries greater strength than an individual one.
The history of the labour movement reminds us that better working conditions, fair treatment and the protection of workers’ rights are strengthened when workers stand together with a common purpose. As we begin this new week, let us remember that solidarity is not just a principle; it is the foundation of meaningful change.
UNTU wishes all our members a blessed and productive week ahead

UNTU VISIBILITY: POTCHEFSTROOM ✊🏾
UNTU believes that visibility is at the heart of effective service delivery.
Our FTUR, Boisile Cimela, together with TURs Busang Mnguni and Sunnyboy Sibigi, visited the Potchefstroom Depot Infra and Yard for a general meeting with members. The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss ongoing Variation Agreement issues and distribute member loyalty gifts.
UNTU is a worker-centred union!

UNTU NOTE OF APPRECIATION:
UNTU believes in giving credit where credit is due. That is why we are proud to share this note of appreciation from our Executive Councillor, Comrade Lincoln Visagie, recognising the outstanding work of our Cradock Branch Chairperson, Comrade Williams.
Comrade Williams’ successful representation of a UNTU member during an arbitration proceeding is a powerful example of the value of investing in the education and training of our Union representatives.
Having received Labour Relations training in April 2026 facilitated by Comrade Visagie, Comrade Williams put the knowledge and principles gained into practice, demonstrating determination, confidence and a strong understanding of labour-relations principles throughout the proceedings.
This is exactly what we strive for as a Union to equip our representatives with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively represent and defend members in workplace dispute resolutions.
Keep up the good work, Comrade Williams.

Today, the United National Transport Union (UNTU) commemorates World Day for Decent Work, placing young workers at the centre of the call for decent work, fair and living wages, safe workplaces, respect and strong labour rights.
The theme hits particularly close to home in South Africa. According to Statistics South Africa’s Q2 2026 Quarterly Labour Force Survey, 47.4% of young people aged 15–34 are unemployed, with 5.0 million young people looking for work.
These figures remind us that young people need more than access to employment, they need decent, secure and sustainable jobs that provide dignity and opportunity.
Young workers are not only the future of the labour movement; they are an important part of its present.
Decent work is a right. Young workers deserve dignity, opportunity and a future built on decent and sustainable employment.
