Electrical Industry | On 12 June 2026, the SAEWA Electrical Industry Branch Committee – Tshwane met in Pretoria to discuss key developments affecting workers in the electrical sector.

The Committee praised the significant progress made by SAEWA within the industry and expressed satisfaction with the valuable benefits provided through the Sick Benefit Fund, as well as the strong performance of the Pension Fund during the previous financial year.

A key highlight of the meeting was the welcoming of the new SAEWA Confinement Fund. This important initiative will help protect members and their families by covering the cost of risk insurance during periods when members are unable to work and contribute to their Retirement Fund benefits due to the birth of a child.

At SAEWA, we remain committed to strengthening worker benefits, providing meaningful support, and ensuring greater financial security for our members and their families.

Youth Day | Today, we honour the courage, resilience, and determination of the young people who have shaped our nation's history and continue to build its future.

At SAEWA, we recognise that today's youth are tomorrow's workforce, leaders, innovators, and changemakers. By investing in education, skills development, fair labour practices, and equal opportunities, we help create a future where every young person has the chance to thrive.

This Youth Day, let us celebrate the energy, ambition, and potential of South Africa's youth while encouraging them to stand up for their rights, pursue their dreams, and contribute positively to their communities and workplaces.

Together, we can build a future founded on dignity, opportunity, and respect for all.

Happy Youth Day, South Africa! 💙💚💛🖤❤️

Member Recruitment Drive | Another successful recruitment drive was held on Friday, 22 May 2026, in the Rosslyn Industrial area.

As a registered trade union with the Department of Labour and a proud party to various National Bargaining Councils — including the Metal, Electrical, Restaurant and Catering Councils, as well as several smaller Bargaining Councils across South Africa — nationwide recruitment drives such as these play a vital role in ensuring SAEWA remains active and representative within these industries.

SAEWA is also proud to be the only recognised union in the Electrical Industry due to its majority representation. Through this strong representation, SAEWA continues to negotiate and sign collective agreements that protect and advance the interests of workers in the industries we serve.

Comrades, please feel free to make use of our Call Centre for more information or to log a call so that one of our dedicated area officials can arrange a visit and introduce themselves to you. Together we remain stronger.

Poultry Sector | Yesterday, the 23rd of April, marked a major milestone for SAEWA as we successfully convened the inaugural meeting of the SAEWA National Shop Stewards Council – Poultry & Allied.

This newly established Council brings together dedicated Shop Stewards from poultry establishments across the country, strengthening unity and building a powerful, collective voice for workers in the sector.

By creating this national platform, we are taking an important step toward better coordination, stronger leadership, and meaningful engagement that will benefit all our members.

A key priority of the Council is to drive the vision of a centralised, collectively bargained Main Agreement — ensuring fair competition among employers and setting consistent minimum standards that protect workers’ rights, dignity, and livelihoods.

We are proud to announce the elected National Leadership:

Chairperson: Phineas Mohale
Secretary: Edmond Phasha
Deputy Chairperson: Khomotso Legoabe (Daybreak)
First Deputy Secretary: Mildred Nkuna (Mikon Poultry)
Second Deputy Secretary: Thomas Ntsoane (Festive Chicken)
Treasurer: Makwena Mphao (Festive Chicken)

We are confident in their leadership as they guide this Council forward with integrity and commitment.

This is just the beginning of a stronger, more united future for workers in the poultry and allied industries.

Marine Sector | SAEWA members at Aqunion Romansbaai are currently on protest, demanding a fair wage increase after two years without one.

The parties are at a deadlock, and negotiations are ongoing in an attempt to reach a consensus. Despite the challenges in the market, we trust that our members will receive the increase they deserve for their hard work, commitment, and dedication.

We remain hopeful for a settlement.

Electrical Industry | SAEWA recently held a successful engagement with Gio Construction in Eikenhof, where we proudly welcomed approximately 30 new members into the union.

The purpose of this visit was to strengthen our presence in the area, build meaningful relationships, and ensure that workers have access to the support and representation they deserve. Expanding our visibility allows us to better serve members and respond effectively to their needs.

We are especially encouraged that these new members were referred to us by workers from Maziya and Cromico, two other electrical companies that we support. Through our ongoing efforts, we have assisted their members in becoming registered with the Electrical Bargaining Council, reinforcing our commitment to fair labour practices and worker empowerment.

SAEWA remains dedicated to standing alongside workers, providing guidance, and advocating for their rights every step of the way.
