Karin is the founder and owner of Hydro Hold, a proudly South African brand dedicated to creating elegant, functional solutions for everyday living through innovative natural materials.

More than fifteen years ago, Karin and her family embarked on an international journey, relocating from South Africa due to her husband's career. Living across different countries and continents exposed her to a rich variety of cultures, design philosophies, and sustainable living practices. These experiences shaped her appreciation for products that combine beauty, purpose, and practicality.
Her introduction to diatomite came unexpectedly through a simple gift—absorbent coasters that instantly captured moisture. Fascinated by the material's remarkable properties, Karin continued testing diatomite products during the family's time in Southeast Asia, where the hot and humid climate provided the perfect environment to evaluate its performance over an extended period.
With a background in horticulture and a deep passion for natural, sustainable materials, Karin recognized the potential of diatomite to solve common household moisture challenges in a stylish and environmentally conscious way.

This inspiration led to the creation of Hydro Hold.
Today, Hydro Hold offers a carefully curated range of premium diatomite slabs designed for kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces.
