Some volunteers leave a lasting impression, and Tristan and Kaedon are definitely two of them. 💙

These two are always willing to lend a hand, never shy away from hard work, and tackle every task with enthusiasm. No matter what needs to be done, they jump in without hesitation, and at the end of every day, they’re still saying “thank you.”

As proud members of the boy scouts, they truly live out the values of service, respect, and helping others. Their positive attitudes, eagerness to learn, and willingness to get stuck in make them an absolute pleasure to have at the Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre.

Thank you, Tristan and Kaedon, for giving your time, your energy, and your hearts to our birds. Volunteers like you make a real difference, and we are so grateful to have you as part of our team. 🦅

Three birds. Three second chances. Three successful releases. 🦅❤️

Not every release gives us the opportunity to take photos or videos. Our priority is always the bird, ensuring it returns to the wild as calmly and safely as possible. While we may not always have those special moments to share, every successful release reminds us exactly why we do what we do.

This week, we were incredibly grateful to see three rehabilitated birds of prey return to where they belong:
🦅 African Goshawk
🦅 Forest Buzzard
🦅 Lanner Falcon

Watching a bird spread its wings and disappear back into the wild after weeks or months of rehabilitation is something that never loses its magic. It is the greatest reward for the long days, the sleepless nights, and the dedication that goes into every rescue.

To everyone who has supported the Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre, whether through donations, visits, sharing our posts, or simply believing in our work, thank you. These releases are only possible because of you.

If you would like to be part of giving more birds a second chance, please consider making a donation. Every contribution, no matter the amount, goes directly towards the care, treatment, rehabilitation, and eventual release of injured birds of prey.

⚠️ Graphic Image Warning ⚠️

Yesterday, we received a Jackal Buzzard at the Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre with a devastating wing injury.

The wing was broken and dislocated in the most unnatural way imaginable. The damage was so severe that there was no possibility of repair and no chance that this bird would ever fly again. After assessing the extent of the injury, the difficult but humane decision was made to euthanize him and end his suffering.

This is the reality of wildlife rehabilitation that many people never see.

Vehicle collisions are one of the biggest threats facing our birds of prey. Every year, raptors are struck by vehicles while feeding on roadkill, hunting alongside roads, or crossing traffic routes. The injuries they sustain are often catastrophic, and sadly, not all of them can be saved.

We are sharing this graphic image because people need to understand the consequences. This beautiful Jackal Buzzard did not deserve to suffer such a traumatic injury. He should have been soaring freely through our skies.

Please slow down, stay alert, and watch for wildlife when driving. A few moments of caution can save a life.

Yesterday, we had to say goodbye to a magnificent bird because his injuries were simply too severe.

Fly high, beautiful Jackal Buzzard. 🕊️❤️

Strong start to the week at Daring Disciples 🦉✨
Jqnco and Stef spent the morning with the little disciples, along with Schosha and introducing them to the fascinating world of birds of prey. Their curiosity, excitement, and bright smiles made the visit truly special.

Always such a joy to spend time with young hearts so eager to learn 💚
