I cannot leave our topic recently called WHO IS ON THE LORD’S SIDE? without addressing the development of what is coined CANCEL CULTURE. Thousands of years ago, the prophet Hosea obliquely gave the foundation for this manifestation in our generation when he stated: “For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.” (chapter 8:7) What starts small can potentially reach duplication, multiplication and ultimately divisive lengths and when we turned our backs on God’s Word and made it impossible to keep checks and balances in our society through our godless laws even cancelling the primary caregivers for children called the parents, we must then not be surprised at the whirlwind effect it will have upon future development. The attitude adopted is if they do not like me for any reason or what I am saying, then they will cancel me/us out, and if they hold a position of power, God help us all.

How often did we hear the phrase spoken from kids to parents: “You cannot touch me or I will take you to court.” Personally, I thank God for loving parents who put the “board of education on my knowledgeable backside” in a totally loving manner ridding me of certain demons early in life, but having stated that, look at what we are facing today. Young people who go to universities where they are supposed to be intellectually developed but are so narrow-minded that they are stupid enough to believe that Israel are the genocide perpetrators while Hamas are the victims in the recent conflict. If we sow to the anti-biblical posturing going on everywhere in the world, we will have a generation of young people emerging where they will cancel out anyone who disagrees with them. Technically, that is called anarchy and is part of what was spoken of as a sign of the last days we are currently living in. (2 Timothy 3:1-5) Thank God for people who are addressing these students on campuses even though they are subjected to much abuse.

I wanted to bring some humor with truth into this forum so the following article with photo satisfies that desire.

HONEST GRANDMOTHER
Lawyers should never ask a Georgia grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer.

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know me?' She responded, 'Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you'll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.'

The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?'

She again replied, 'Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.' The defense attorney nearly died.

The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said,"If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you both to the electric chair."

A Thankful Heart – part 1 Francis Frangipane

The very quality of your life, whether you love it or hate it, is based upon how thankful you are toward God. It is one's attitude that determines whether life unfolds into a place of blessedness or wretchedness. Indeed, looking at the same rose bush, some people complain that the roses have thorns while others rejoice that some thorns come with roses. It all depends on your perspective.

This is the only life you will have before you enter eternity. If you want to find joy, you must first find thankfulness. Indeed, the one who is thankful for even a little enjoys much. But the unappreciative soul is always miserable, always complaining. He lives outside the shelter of the Most High God.

Perhaps the worst enemy we have is not the devil but our own tongue. James tells us, "The tongue is set among our members as that which . . . sets on fire the course of our life" (James 3:6). He goes on to say this fire is ignited by hell. Consider: with our own words we can enter the spirit of heaven or the agonies of hell!

It is hell with its punishments, torments and misery that controls the life of the grumbler and complainer! Paul expands this thought in 1 Corinthians 10:10, where he reminds us of the Jews who "grumble[d] . . . and were destroyed by the destroyer." The fact is, every time we open up to grumbling and complaining, the quality of our life is reduced proportionally -- a destroyer is bringing our life to ruin!

People often ask me, "What is the ruling demon over our church or city?" They expect me to answer with the ancient Aramaic or Phoenician name of a fallen angel. What I usually tell them is a lot more practical: one of the most pervasive evil influences over our nation is ingratitude!

Do not minimize the strength and cunning of this enemy! Paul said that the Jews who grumbled and complained during their difficult circumstances were "destroyed by the destroyer." Who was this destroyer? If you insist on discerning an ancient world ruler, one of the most powerful spirits mentioned in the Bible is Abaddon, whose Greek name is Apollyon. It means "destroyer" (Rev. 9:11). Paul said the Jews were destroyed by this spirit. In other words, when we are complaining or unthankful, we open the door to the destroyer, Abaddon, the demon king over the abyss of hell!

In the Presence of God

Multitudes in our nation have become specialists in the "science of misery." They are experts -- moral accountants who can, in a moment, tally all the wrongs society has ever done to them or their group. I have never talked with one of these people who was happy, blessed or content about anything. They expect an imperfect world to treat them perfectly.

Truly, there are people in this wounded country of ours who need special attention. However, most of us simply need to repent of ingratitude, for it is ingratitude itself that is keeping wounds alive! We simply need to forgive the wrongs of the past and become thankful for what we have in the present.

The moment we become grateful, we actually begin to ascend spiritually into the presence of God. The psalmist wrote,
"Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing. . . . Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations" (Psalm 100:2, 4-5).

It does not matter what your circumstances are; the instant you begin to thank God, even though your situation has not changed, you begin to change. The key that unlocks the gates of heaven is a thankful heart. Entrance into the courts of God comes as you simply begin to praise the Lord.

Blessed Lord, forgive me for being a complainer. Help me to offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving in all things. Lord, I come this day to covenant with You. By Your grace, I will be thankful regardless of what my life seems to be. Oh God, remember Your covenant pledge and gather me near to Your heart. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I would love to hear your sentiments about this posting by Jonathan Jansen – Rector of Free State University. My feeling is that it could be a watershed document. Please write me back on this.
Jansen provided 10 ways to improve the South African education system in a Facebook post titled: Ten things I would do first if I were your Minister of Schools
1. Stop the circus: no more announcements of matric (12 grade in American terms) results. I would instead announce the results of our investment in pre-school education programmes – how well prepared are our pre-schoolers for formal education?
2. Fire all the deployed officials in provinces and districts. Officials welcome to re-apply on the basis of proven competence – party loyalties will be irrelevant.
3. Replace fired officials with coaches and mentors (not inspectors) for every teacher and principal who work alongside staff as colleagues. These coaches and mentors must have a track record of running successful schools or achieving high results in the subjects for which they are responsible.
4. Appoint an ombudsperson for every SGB to root out corruption in teacher and head appointments.
5. Ensure every child has a textbook in every subject within three months, or somebody loses his job.
6. Abolish the ANAs with immediate effect and assess every three years in the most vulnerable schools only.
7. Increase the salaries of teachers on one criterion only – that the children in the poorest schools show steady increases in achievement scores.
8. No teacher will be hired with less than a Master’s degree in teaching by 2018 and this status will be reflected in salary scales highly competitive with the private sector.
9. Teachers will show up in every class every day and teach. Two strikes (misses) and you’re out unless there is a certified medical certificate which can be cross-checked for dishonesty.
10. Teachers given three months off every three years to improve their professional qualifications.

A Different Kind of Leader

The modern day worker cannot be deceived with promises of quick and easy solutions and a perfect world. The challenges we face at work are multidimensional. They are complex and demanding of both our cognitive and our emotional and social intelligences. In addition, modern day life is fast-paced with relentless waves of change. In such a world, the quality of our work and our progress is more dependent on the ability to respond effectively to situations than it is to comply with rules, regulations and standards. In essence, in a postmodern world beyond blueprints, formulas, recipes, textbook solutions and the dominance of reason, leaders in particular must have deep intuitive insight, grounded in a solid spiritual foundation of principles and values.

Equally important is the regard for relationships of all kinds and knowing how to preserve them. Great leaders know how to balance the necessary regulations of good governance and accountability, with the creativity and skill to optimize opportunities that unlock their full potential.

Developing leaders

The above factors have a significant impact on the type of leader that is needed in business, as well as the methodology which is used to develop such leaders. The requirement to respond in quick time but with a long term and holistic view demands leadership skill and ability at all levels of an organisation. It therefore needs to be in the vision of the leaders with the highest responsibility for the organisation to strategically build the leadership of all its employees.

The modern leader is characterised more by his insight, resolve and ability to ‘read' people and situations well than it is by his knowledge or charisma. The development of a leader is therefore neither determined by nature (personality) nor by study and classroom training. The focus in developing a leader needs to be more experiential, learning from feedback and reflecting on inner as well as team dynamics.

Developing and building leaders should not be seen, neither be treated as an event. Instead the development of leaders is a process which is typically not classroom training, but hands-on coaching and facilitated self-reflection. Developing good leaders is also not a theoretical application which is done in isolation, but rather a continuous set of practical experiences which is applied in the context of teamwork. Such development of leaders must be done in a responsive manner which meets specific and immediate challenges - it is intensive, personal and must be outcomes focused.

Outcomes

A leadership development initiative will only have real and lasting outcomes if the process ensures the internalisation of new knowledge (i.e. the leader functions with new insight in what is more effective and beneficial for the whole) with regards to leading himself, leading change and leading others.

The three essential questions that leaders should be able to answer their followers convincingly are:
1. How will you model excellence to us?
In other words, what is your example of character, courage, integrity and personal mastery?
2. Where will you take us?
In other words, what do you see as our destination and how we will get there?
3. How will you engage us?
In other words, how will you create an environment of inspiration, care, growth and discipline for all of us?
To grow as a leader demands on-going introspection, reflection, listening to and learning from feedback.

Lifelong learning

Real leaders are not those who had one success story and then try to repeat it over and over again with nothing new to add. They are not those who sit back, fold their arms and declare that there is nothing left for them to learn - nothing of importance at least. To the contrary, real leaders are those people who over a lifetime were able to adjust and find new ways of applying themselves; new wisdom to go forward with, as well as new inspiration to overcome the challenges.

Indeed, as JF Kennedy realised, leadership and learning are indispensable to each other. Not only is the ‘know it all’ attitude a sign of flawed leadership, but learning in itself is a process of leading. The word ‘leadership’ implies the risk of going first. It implies new territory. It implies change. It implies learning.

DIRECTIONS PLEASE

There are so many words that we find ‘floating’ around and sometimes we mix the meaning of these words up. Words such as purpose, assignment, destiny, desire, goals, talents, gifts and the list goes on. We use these words interchangeably sometimes, without pausing to think about the true meaning.

Recently, I found myself asking one question, all said and done; do I know the reason why I am here on earth i.e. what my assignment on earth is? By knowing, I mean knowing beyond a shadow of doubt what God has called me to do.

I have been asking many people this question and it seems a lot of people are hoping that through the use of their gifts and talents, they will fulfill their destiny. But the question still remains, what exactly are you here to do? I believe that if you can’t articulate this in a matter of fact manner, the chances are you really do not know. If you cannot tell your basic assignment in a sentence or two, you probably do not really know your assignment

I am not asking about the gifts and talents you have. The more I have studied this subject and thought on these words, the more I have come to the conclusion that a lot of us are hoping we get to our destiny and fulfilling God’s will, without actually being sure of what it is.

I believe that everyone has a purpose. Purpose is the assignment you are called to born to deliver. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that we are born for a purpose.

Substitutes for assignment

Of course, there are certain things that can give us an idea or clue to our destiny, but remember, they are only clues and you still have to find out the destination. Clues only point towards a destination. So, we have clues or indicators such as:

• Desires of our hearts. God said that He would give us the desires of our hearts. Our desires can tie in with our assignment but it is not our assignment.
• Things we like/dislike and would like to change
• Your past
• Things we have a passion for
• Circumstances
• Things that have humbled us
• Things that inspire us
• Experience and education
• Things that make us proud

In addition, God has also given us talents. We are meant to use our talents to fulfill our destiny. However, talents are not the same as an assignment. The recognition and use of talents is not the same as knowing what your destiny is. Talents are destiny helpers. Talents, anointing and others are clues to our destiny. Spiritual gifts also help you fulfill your assignment.
A lot of us have substituted the clues for an assignment. You use your gifts, talents and treasures to complete your assignment.

Revelation of the assignment

So how do we know our destiny? How do we know beyond a shadow of doubt what God has called you for?

Let’s start with Jesus. Jesus came to do the will of His Father and He knew what that Will was. What exactly was God’s will for Him? His Will was to ultimately die for the sins of the whole world.

John the Baptist recognized Jesus as the Lamb who will take away the sins of the whole world.

After serious consideration of the scriptures, I have come to the conclusion that only God can tell you what your assignment is and you owe it to yourself to find out what it is. Your purpose can only come about by revelation.

Ephesians 1:11 in the message says “It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are looking for”. You discover your identify and purpose through a personal relationship with God. You have to spend time seeking God for it (even if it takes month), so you are assured that your life is aligned with God’s eternal purpose.

Destiny is moving toward a purposed end. Destiny is imparted individually (Jeremiah 1:5). Ask God what He wants you to do and don’t let go, until He answers. Life is too short to take chances with it. Destiny or purpose is not guess work. If you don’t know your destiny, you will not fulfill it. You have a responsibility to find out what your assignment is.

Only the creator of a thing can say why he or she created something. Only God can tell you why He created you.. You need to spend time seeking your assignment. John 17:4. Jesus completed the assignment that His Father gave Him to do.

Some of the ways in which revelation comes include:

• Direct communication from God – divine communication
• Prophetic utterance
• Confirmation from other people
• Laying on of hands
• Generational pronouncement and blessings
• Visions
• The word of God
• Inner witness

You can only develop life goals i.e. the direction your life would take and planning for it, after you know your purpose. Goals are set to help fulfill the assignment.
God forbid that we get to the end of our lives and think, if only I had known that I was born for this.

In conclusion, seek, find and fulfill your life’s assignment. David served God’s purpose in his generation, may you also serve God’s purpose in your generation.
