Keep Our Forest Safe

In light of the recent incidents in the forest, KOFS (Keep Our Forests Safe) and Hillbillies Trail have taken steps to increase patrols in our forests to ensure your safety.

They have reached out to the community and have volunteers signup to patrol everyday till the end of the year. Thank you to those willing to patrol. The more eyes and movement in our forest, the better. KOFS will also add 2 patrollers (Alan and Martin pictured below), hopefully to increase to four later in the week.

If you see Alan and Martin, please say hi and thank them for their service.

Should you be unable to assist with a patrolling time, please consider sponsoring a patrollers wage of R250 per day. KOFS operate purely on donations.

Good day- we will be moving the Telegram group over to Whatsapp in an effort to centralize the communications to one platform. This will make it easier when we are responding, people can easily be contacted through whatsapp, some older folk prefer to use whatsapp and sometime messages on here only come through late. The group is for anyone that is using the forest and need a place to report suspicious activity, attacks or untoward activity. On Friday afternoon we had an incident where two male coloured men tried stealing a bike from a group of riders. They had pangas and the one was dressed in black clothes and the other had yellow/orange jacket and white bleached hair. Please keep an eye out and report immediately if they are spotted

Good day everyone. Just a quick note to let you know that the CGH Neighborhood Watch has taken over KOFS and it will from now on be run as a project within the committee of the neighborhood watch. I want to take this opportunity to thank Louis and all the other members that have given life to this initiative and ever since the start of the initiative, incidents in our forest have decreased to a point of non-existence. We will aim to keep the forest as safe as it has been and will be introducing a few interesting initiatives shortly. With that said, please note that there are a couple of spots open on our boards so if anyone wants to sponsor a spot, please get in contact with me, Shawn. Reported Incident | 23-08-2022

On 23-08-2022, round about 4pm, Greystorm Tactical was contacted to inform them of a possible deceased person on a hiking trail in the vacinity of "Tonnelbos Trail" in the mountain.

Greystorm resonded to try and ascertain the exact circumstances of the situation. Due to the nature of how high up the mountain this trail is and the time of day, it was decided for Greystorm to discontinue their search and KOFS contacted Metro Emergency Service (Search and Rescue) to step in and take the lead.

EMS, SAPS and various teams responded, and at 11:30pm, the person was found and confirmed to be deceased.

Recovery operations continued on 24-08-2022, and the deceased was recovered from the mountain via helicopter.

No further information is available at this time.

Thanks to GREYSTORM TACTICAL, METRO RESCUE, AMS RESCUE HELICOPTER, GEORGE FIRE DEPARTMENT, OUTENIQUA TRAIL SEARCH AND RESCUE, SAPS FORENSIC PATHOLOGY SERVICE for their involvement in this rescue/recovery.

The operation was led by EMS District Rescue Manager Richard Botha.

[ACCOUNTING SERVICES NEEDED]

KOFS has the need for some accounting services on a yearly basis. If you are interested in offering your services on a barter principle, we will provide advertising spots for your business on our boards, in exchange for yearly accounting services rendered.
