Fair Start

Fair Start Educating mothers and children on the importance of Early Childhood development in the Riviersondere Fair Start is free and operating twice a week.

Fair Start is a non-profit organization which focuses on educating mothers and children between the ages of 2-5 years, on the importance of early childhood development in the Riviersonderend Valley. After making the horrific discovery that almost 1600 children between the ages of 2-5 needed to have their teeth extracted, the founder Dr Richard Erskine and Mrs Hazel Erskine decided that something h

ad to be done to change the course. Most of these children came from families with poor education and low economic income. Our mission is to include the parent or main caregiver in the early childhood development program – which will be a free service to the community. The program will also provide training for parents, as well as educating children. We feel strongly that this project should be from the community for the community. The pilot project was launched in July 2012 at the Old Post Office building in Genadendal, which is now used every Tuesday and Thursday as the Fair Start Educational Centre. We also provide nutritious meals for the families, according to the seasons. NPO Number 106-404
