Woman fined R1 800 for taking R36 transport money from boyfriend and not showing up for sleepover
A court in Soweto has ordered a woman, Lerato Mokoena, to pay her boyfriend, Thabo Dlamini, R1 800 after she took his R36 transport money and never pitched up for their sleepover.
According to the story, Thabo sent Lerato R36 for taxi fare, but as soon as the money came in, she switched off her phone and disappeared.
Feeling played and heartbroken, Thabo went to Orlando Police Station and opened a case. Lerato was later arrested and taken to court.
In court, Thabo brought proof screenshots of the WhatsApp chats and the money transfer.
Magistrate Nomsa Khumalo ruled that Lerato must pay back the R36, plus R1 260 for breaking their agreement, and another R504 for emotional distress.
The magistrate said this should be a lesson to others who take taxi money and then disappear.
Moral of the story: Don’t take taxi money if you know you’re not going anywhere, my girl!
