OLD STITHIAN DAVID BURGES- CLASS OF 2016

David attended St Stithians from Grade R through to Grade 7, and the school was an important part of his childhood. Although he went on to complete his high school years elsewhere, the Class of 2016 fondly remembers David and the special part he played in their early school years.

More recently, David returned to St Stithians as part of the Boys’ Prep coaching team, where he quickly became a much-loved member of the community. He was especially loved by the boys he coached and made a lasting impression on the young students he worked with.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of David’s unexpected passing from heart failure at just 28 years old. A life far too short, and a loss that will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.

Our heartfelt condolences go to his sister, Jess Burgess, and to Linzi, who has been a valued member of our Junior Prep teaching staff for more than 30 years.

The St Stithians and Old Stithian community holds the Burgess family close in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

The things that happen outside of our official events… 🌏💙❤️🤍

Sometimes it’s the unexpected moments that remind you just how small the world really is.

A quick chat with the barista turned into discovering she was a Saints Old Girl who left in 2019 , Christie Ruiter, and then, by an even smaller-world coincidence, we bumped into her mom, Claire Ruiter, also an Old Stithian!

We were incredibly fortunate to have David Porzig, an Old Stithian, take us around Perth for a wonderful city tour especially appreciated when the rain decided to make an appearance on our final day! 🌧️☔️

We ended the day with a lovely afternoon with Paul and Sue Reuvers, whose incredible passion for education and the memories they hold of Saints made for such a special way to end our Perth visit.

These are the moments that make alumni connections so special. You leave home thinking you’re travelling far from Saints, only to discover that the Saints family is everywhere — and always somehow finds a way to connect. 💙❤️🤍

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of St Stithians Boys' College alumnus, Ethan Coetzee (2025).

Ethan completed the full Grade R to Grade 12 journey at Saints from 2013 to 2025 and over that time established very strong friendships and connections. Through his time at Saints, Ethan was described as a young man of strength, commitment, and humility. Whether in the classroom, on the rugby field, in equestrian sport, or in service to others, he approached his passions with great enthusiasm.

Awarded Rugby Colours as a member of the 1st XV, a national champion in Eventing, and a respected senior student in Penryn House, he proved to be a keen supporter of junior members of the House and respective sporting teams, earning him the respect of teammates, coaches, and peers alike. Ethan possessed a natural warmth and charisma that drew people to him, forging strong friendships. He had the ability to instil confidence in others, offering encouragement when it was needed most and making those around him feel seen, valued, and supported.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, class of 2025 and all who mourn the loss of this joyful, determined young man. We hold them closely in our prayers and stand alongside them, and one another, as we mourn the loss of Ethan.

We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary outpouring of concern and support following the tragic loss of Ethan.

Given the volume of comments being received, we are unable to moderate them appropriately and have therefore made the difficult decision to turn off comments on these posts.

Old Stithians in Sydney!

What an incredible evening reconnecting with fellow Old Stithians in Sydney. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces, welcome new members to our community, and celebrate the lifelong connections that make the Saints network so special.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a success. Your enthusiasm and support continue to strengthen our global alumni community.

We look forward to seeing the Sydney chapter continue to grow and creating many more opportunities for Old Stithians across Australia to reconnect, network, and stay connected.

Until next time… once a Saint, always a Saint. 💙❤️🤍

OLD STITHIAN ROWING NEWS - u23 ROWING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

We are so proud of Old Stithian Brigitte Kappler (Class of 2022) who was selected to compete at the U23 World Champs, this past weekend, through a new Performance Pathway catering to the athletes who have followed their dreams of studying and rowing overseas. B currently studies and rows at University of Central Florida where she has been part of their phenomenal team. With multiple regional titles and an honourable selection into the Top 12 team, B has grown into a fierce competitor.

B and her crew placed 6th overall in the u23 Woman’s Coxless Four! An exciting result considering the crew had only trained together for a month before racing against the best in the world.

As Saints rowing, St Stithians and the Old Stithian Association, we are beyond proud of your achievements over the past season and look forward to watching your journey onwards.

OLD STITHIAN CRICKET NEWS – RICARDO VASCONCELOS SHINES!

Congratulations to Old Stithian Ricardo Vasconcelos (Class of 2015) and Northamptonshire Steelbacks on being crowned 2026 Vitality Blast Champions!

Ricardo starred on the biggest stage, producing a magnificent 88 off just 59 deliveries in the final against Hampshire to lay the foundation for Northamptonshire's thrilling 14-run victory and secure the club's third Vitality Blast title. His innings earned widespread praise as one of the defining performances of Finals Day. A proud product of St Stithians College, Ricardo has built an outstanding career since leaving Saints. After Vice-captaining South Africa at U19 level and representing the Lions in domestic cricket, he made the move to England, where he has become one of Northamptonshire's most prolific and dependable batters.

An elegant left-handed opening batter and respected leader, Ricardo has amassed thousands of runs across all formats of English domestic cricket, consistently delivering for Northamptonshire and cementing his reputation as one of the county game's premier performers.

Ricardo's journey is a testament to the values of hard work, resilience and excellence that define Saints cricket. We are incredibly proud to see one of our own excelling on the international stage and making history with another memorable performance.

Congratulations, Ricardo! Your Saints family celebrates this remarkable achievement with you.

OLD STITHIAN CRICKET NEWS

Congratulations to Old Stithians Muhammad Manack (Class of 2020) and Richard Seletswane (Class of 2024) on their selection to the South Africa Emerging Men's Squad.

Muhammad has continued to build an impressive career since leaving Saints, establishing himself as a consistent top-order batter for the DP World Lions and currently the dafabet Warriors. His performances have earned him opportunities on the national stage, including standout innings for the SA Emerging side, where he recently registered an important half-century against Bangladesh Emerging.

Richard's cricket journey has been equally remarkable. A South African U19 representative while still at school, he was a standout performer for Saints' 1st XI, producing match-winning innings throughout his school career. Since graduating, he has continued his rise with the DP World Lions and now takes another exciting step in his representative career with this Emerging squad selection.

We are incredibly proud to see both Muhammad and Richard representing South African cricket and continuing the proud Saints cricket legacy.

Congratulations, Muhammad and Richard. We wish you every success in the green and gold!
