Community-Cleaners We work together as a community to keep our neighbourhoods clean and safe, primarily focusing on the areas of Fairland, Northcliff, Berario, and Valeriedene.

Community-Cleaners are a Community-Based Organisation focused on creating jobs for our local South African citizens by cleaning up and maintaining our local parks and streets. Funded by our local residents we endeavour to keep our parks and streets clean and safe. Our story begins with community members who came together out of concern for the diminishing state of the parks, residents no longer make use of areas like the Fairlands Koppie or Kings Park (to name just a couple) because of the crime and the deteriorating state which the parks are in. What started as a small initiative, picking up litter and maintaining overgrown vegetation in our parks turned into something bigger than we could ever have anticipated. Together they organised a clean-up group consisting of local residents and the first project namely Fairlands Koppie was addressed. The meet was a massive success and the need for us as residents to be actively involved became increasingly apparent. The group agreed weekly clean ups should be arranged and rather than us sitting at home behind our screens complaining about the lack of services available it was up to us to make the difference. Our group continued to meet up weekly and residents who were not able to make clean up days began to make small donations enabling the group to expand and start employing people to assist with our clean ups

We are heading to Donga Park this Saturday 17 October at 09h00 for our next litter sweep.

Meet/Park: Playground on the Donga Avenue side.

Come along if you can, even for a short while. Every extra pair of hands helps keep our parks looking good.

Please consider donating your Checkers stickers to the CC as we will be selling them to help raise funds for the CC., especially with the increased cost of petrol for the Mowers etc. We are happy to collect and if you are missing any let us know. R10 per sticker

Good day everyone,

I have a exiting announcement, with the poles finished around Union Jack Park, we have recieved permission from City parks via Community Cleaners to install a jungle gym which will benefit all the kids in the community.
We have a sponsor for the jungle gym.

It's another small step in making the park family friendly.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported today's Fairland Koppie litter sweep. 👏

Every bag of litter removed makes a difference.
Keeping the Koppie and our parks clean is not a once-off job, it takes regular effort, committed volunteers and community support to prevent our open spaces from becoming dumping grounds.
Someone did some pruning but did not bother to remove the branches.

We appreciate every volunteer who gives their time, every person who lends a hand, and every resident who supports Community-Cleaners NPC.

Your donation helps us cover fuel, equipment, maintenance, and the everyday costs of keeping our parks and open spaces clean.

MELANIE PARK, a HIDDEN GEM WAITING TO BE RESTORED

Melanie Park is one of the smaller parks in our area, at only around 3,200 m², but it has the potential to become a real little gem for the surrounding residents.

Unfortunately, the park is neglected and dirty, with litter, broken bottles and general signs of neglect.

With a relatively small amount of effort, some community involvement and a little investment, it could be transformed into a clean, safe and attractive neighbourhood park.

One possibility is putting up a 30 metre fence along Weltevreden Road, closing on end off and open to the residents living around it.

It doesn't need to become a huge project. An investment and a community that cares can make a big difference.

FAIRLAND CEMETERY, FIRST CLEAN-UP OF THE SEASON

Our first clean-up of the season at Fairland Cemetery is done. 🌿

There was quite a bit of rubble to remove, left behind after a new cable was installed recently.

It’s hard work, but keeping the cemetery clean and looking respectable is something we believe is worth doing for our community.
