Community-Cleaners

Community-Cleaners We work together as a community to keep our neighbourhoods clean and safe, primarily focusing on the areas of Fairland, Northcliff, Berario, and Valeriedene.

Community-Cleaners are a Community-Based Organisation focused on creating jobs for our local South African citizens by cleaning up and maintaining our local parks and streets. Funded by our local residents we endeavour to keep our parks and streets clean and safe. Our story begins with community members who came together out of concern for the diminishing state of the parks, residents no longer ma

ke use of areas like the Fairlands Koppie or Kings Park (to name just a couple) because of the crime and the deteriorating state which the parks are in. What started as a small initiative, picking up litter and maintaining overgrown vegetation in our parks turned into something bigger than we could ever have anticipated. Together they organised a clean-up group consisting of local residents and the first project namely Fairlands Koppie was addressed. The meet was a massive success and the need for us as residents to be actively involved became increasingly apparent. The group agreed weekly clean ups should be arranged and rather than us sitting at home behind our screens complaining about the lack of services available it was up to us to make the difference. Our group continued to meet up weekly and residents who were not able to make clean up days began to make small donations enabling the group to expand and start employing people to assist with our clean ups

Community Cleanup – King & Wilson Park

We're heading to the K&W Park this Saturday, 6 June at 08h30 for a litter sweep.

Meet/Park: on the San Juan Avenue side of the park.

Unfortunately, the park has recently been subjected to a considerable amount of littering and mess. Residents in the area have raised concerns and there seems to be a lot of work waiting for us this weekend.

Please join us - every helping hand makes a difference. The more people we have, the more we can achieve and the quicker we can restore the park to a condition the community can be proud of.

We hope to see you there.

Thank you to all the community members who pitched up to help at the litter sweep this morning at the Koppie.

A big thank you, as always, to the Beagle Watch Environmental Team for helping with the collection and removal of the rubbish and to Klaus for the delicious butternut soup and beautiful soft buttered ciabatta that went perfectly with it.

The Koppie is now looking much cleaner and we encourage everyone to make use of this wonderful community space. The more people enjoying the park, the better it is for everyone.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Community-Cleaners Winter Job. We are going around all our parks pruning and chipping trees.

This work not only tidies up the parks, but also opens up visibility, improves safety and security, and makes it easier to maintain the grass.

A big thank you to everyone who continues to support our efforts. We could not do this without your support and donations.

The Community-Cleaners had two teams out today.

Wayne, Craig and their team sprayed weeds along 9th Avenue, King & Wilson, Union Jack and Melanie Parks, and will continue again tomorrow.

Margerith and her team continued with regular maintenance at the Fairland Cemetery, weeding and general clean-up.

Thank you to everyone for your hard work and for caring about our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined Sunday Community-Cleaners litter sweep at the empty stand on the corner of Still and Kessel Street.
A special thank you to Klaus for the delicious homemade soup and fresh ciabatta bread, and to the Beagle Watch Environmental Team for their continued support.
Unfortunately, we again found a large amount of illegal dumping, including rubble, branches and building debris. The taxis also did not disappoint, as this area has become an informal taxi rank resulting in lots of litter left behind.
This property belongs to the Department of Public Works and would be nice to see better maintenance and oversight from them.
Thank you for the continued support and teamwork.

It’s been a productive week for Community-Cleaners.
On Monday & Tuesday we finished up in Donga Park.
On Tuesday afternoon we cut the grass in the park next to Northcliff Country Club. Thank you to Run Zone for covering our monthly operating costs.
On Wednesday we cut the grass at Eddie Magid Park, aka Fairland Tennis Courts.
Today Wayne and his team are working in Leo Epstein Park and clearing around the reeds in King and Wilson Park.

Next week we plan to clean up 9th Avenue from Maket St to under the highway and start with the skoffeling work across all 14 of our parks.

None of this would be possible without the ongoing support from the community.
Thank you to everyone who contributes, volunteers and backs our work.
