On the 24th of March 2026, Tosunga Baninga, in collaboration with Mmokeng wa Maqheku, hosted a powerful community dialogue in Sasolburg. The gathering aimed to spark meaningful conversations around SGBVF and create a space for awareness, reflection, and change.
The event was a great success, leaving a lasting impact and reinforcing the importance of speaking up and standing together as a community.

15 women are murdered every day in South Africa. (2024 statistics)

We are still waiting for the 2025 numbers, and already we fear what 2026 will show. Not because we want proof, but because we already know the truth. GBVF is real.

The justice system is failing us. We are forced to live among perpetrators while systems meant to protect us remain lenient toward those who harm us.

How many more lives must be lost before this ends?

In 2025, Tosunga Baninga Co-founder Norma Mbele was honoured with a Heroine Award by the Premier during International Women’s Month. In 2026, she was recognised again as a runner-up by Gender Links at the GL Voice and Choice Summit, also during this important month. These recognitions affirm that meaningful work is being done at the grassroots level.

These awards are dedicated to the victims, their families, and the survivors of SGBVF. We remain committed to supporting you, ensuring that your voices are restored and that you reclaim your power as women, young girls, and as communities.

The work continues. Thank you to all the organisations that believed in us and continue to do so. Your ongoing support makes this work possible. We are because of you.

Stories have the power to heal. This year, we used film to reflect, learn, and see the realities of GBVF through new lenses. As we continue the struggle, here’s how storytelling helps us find truth, insight, and hope.

Violence against women and children happened every single day. Almost 11 - 15 women are murdered every single day so we will fight, march and make noise every day.

We are all emotionally drained after today’s exhibition abd this is because we don’t just recreate the crime scenes, we carry the scars they represent. The scars of abused women.

As we close off the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, let’s remember that abuse doesn’t happen only for 16 days. It happens every single day.

Let’s continue fighting this injustice, relentlessly. Let’s not stop until it happens to no one. 💔✊🏽✨

It’s 365 days and not 16 Days

Join us for the film screening and exhibition on the 10th and let’s close off the campaign with a reminder that SGBVF happens every day.

As we close off the 16 Days of Activism, let’s remember:
15 women are murdered every single day. The end of this campaign does not mean the violence ends. It does not mean we stop fighting.

Our voices, our actions, and our demand for justice must continue every single day. People must still be held accountable. The fight is far from over.

See you on 10 December 2025.
