⏰ Protecting Those Who Cannot Speak, Every Hour of Every Day 🐢

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA Inspectorate is on call every hour of every day, responding to reports of animal cruelty across more than 3,200 km² - from Cape Town to Stellenbosch and the Cape Winelands. 🐾

Our trained Controllers take calls and dispatch Inspectors who rescue animals in distress, seize those living in appalling conditions, issue warnings and take legal action against abuse and neglect.

From advising on municipal animal by-laws to proactively inspecting facilities, combating dog fighting and engaging communities, our Inspectorate team works tirelessly to protect those who cannot speak for themselves. πŸ’™

The SPCA is the only organisation in the Cape Metropole offering a 24-hour Inspectorate service, making sure animals are safe, cared for and their rights protected - every single day.

October is National Transport Month!Every day, thousands of farm animals are transported across South Africa, to feedlots, abattoirs, and saleyards, and across borders and overseas. Follow-up inspections are crucial to make sure that those previously charged with animal cruelty don’t reoffend.🐾

Recently, our Special Projects Unit visited the property of an individual convicted in 2021 for using dogs πŸ• to hunt wildlife, an act that caused unnecessary suffering and severe welfare concerns. πŸ’”

As part of the court’s ruling βš–οΈ, finalised earlier this year, the accused was declared unfit to own dogs and was prohibited from doing so for five years. πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Sadly, during our follow-up inspection, our Inspectors found several neglected dogs on the property πŸ˜”. The dogs were rescued, and new charges will be laid against the individual.πŸ’ͺ🏽

This case highlights why it is so important for our Inspectors to revisit offenders, because those who abuse often repeat their cruelty.πŸ‘€

We’re fighting every day against this type of suffering. With 🫡🏽 your help, we can keep fighting.
