📢 G20 Update: What They Said About People with Disabilities & Non-Profit Organisations

The 2025 G20 under South Africa’s Presidency has finally put disability inclusion on the global agenda.
Here are the key points:

🌍 1. Disability Included in the G20 Social Summit
For the first time, persons with disabilities, grassroots NGOs and community organisations are recognised as essential partners in shaping global social policy.

📑 2. G20 Leaders’ Declaration
World leaders committed to removing discriminatory laws, promoting full inclusion, and ensuring access to health, education and decent work for people with disabilities.

💰 3. “Leave No One Behind” Development Compact
G20 Ministers pledged to address all forms of inequality — including disability — and to empower vulnerable groups through inclusive policies.

🇿🇦 4. South Africa’s Disability Inclusion Initiative
Government is establishing a Disability Inclusion Nerve Centre focusing on data, accessibility, early childhood screening, technology, AI tools, and inclusive education.
Civil society and NGOs are expected to play a central role.

🗣️ 5. What Disability Organisations Are Demanding
• Full accessibility at all G20 events
• Disability-responsive budgeting
• Recognition of D20 (Disability-20) as a formal G20 engagement group
• Real participation, not tokenism

🤝 Why This Matters for NGOs
This is a major opportunity for community organisations, DPOs and NPOs to influence global policy, strengthen partnerships, and push for real investment in disability inclusion.
