As part of our Women's Day commemorations, The Healing Hands Organisation hosted a special staff wellness event focused on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) under the theme "Supporting Women. Restoring Strength."

The session provided a safe space for our staff to reflect, engage in meaningful conversations, and strengthen our understanding of GBVF and the importance of supporting survivors with empathy, dignity, and compassion.

As professionals serving vulnerable individuals and families, it is essential that we also invest in the wellbeing of those who dedicate their lives to serving others. The event was a reminder that healing begins within ourselves and that together we can create safer communities for women and girls.

We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who participated and contributed to making the day meaningful. Your openness, support, and commitment to ending GBVF continue to strengthen the work we do every day.

πŸ’š Together, we stand against GBVF. Together, we heal. Together, we empower.

Mandela Day: A Call to Restore Hope ❀️

Today, Healing Hands visited a family of 8 in New Village who urgently need our support.

A single mother is doing her best to raise her 7 children on her own while battling ill health. Without consistent treatment and a support system, providing for her family has become an overwhelming challenge.

The family survives mainly on child support grants for five of the children and a small income from tenants renting a shop. Sadly, this is not enough to meet their daily needs. Despite efforts from concerned neighbours to assist with managing the household finances, the family continues to struggle.

The children range in age from 8 to 24 years. One of the young adults still does not have an ID document, limiting opportunities to access services and employment.

Their living conditions are heartbreaking. The house is in poor condition, with some rooms having no doors, broken door handles, and very little furniture. The entire family sleeps on a single old mattress. They are in desperate need of food, blankets, clothing, mattresses, bedding, furniture, and household essentials to restore their dignity and improve their quality of life.

As we commemorate Mandela Day, we are reminded that even the smallest act of kindness can change someone's life.

If you are able to donate food, clothing, blankets, mattresses, furniture, toiletries, or any household items, or if you would like to support this family in any other way, please contact Healing Hands.

Together, we can give this family hope and remind them that they are not alone. ❀️

Healing Hands hosted a powerful and impactful child protection month event that brought together caregivers and parents to openly discuss issues affecting our children and families.

Key stakeholders were present and actively engaged with the community, addressing critical topics such as child protection, immunisations, birth certificates, gender-based violence, and other pressing social issues relevant to everyday life in our communities.

We are truly encouraged by the meaningful participation, shared knowledge, and collective commitment to creating a safer, healthier, and more informed environment for our children.

πŸ™πŸ½ Thank you to all stakeholders, caregivers, and community members who made this event a success.
Together, we protect today and empower tomorrow.

πŸ’š Our children. Our responsibility. Our future. πŸ’š

The Healing Hands is working with orphaned and vulnerable children, including child- and youth-headed households, in and around Sebokeng Zone 12, Kanana, Matotomane, Boitumelo, and parts of Small Farms.

Many of these children do not have birth certificates. Without one, a child cannot:
❌ Go to school
❌ Access a SASSA grant
❌ Have a legal identity

Through this second-hand clothing drive, we collect donated clothes, sell them at a jumble sale, and use the funds to pay for DNA tests needed for birth registration.

πŸ’š Your donation helps a child get a name, an identity, and a future.

πŸ“ Drop-off point:
Ntabankulu Primary School
4243 Zone 12, Sebokeng

Fezile Security, the security company responsible for guarding Mandela Square, took the initiative to implement Corporate Social Investment (CSI)aimed at giving back to the community.

They identified Wards 18, 27, and 33, where Healing Hands is already active through psychosocial support and behavioural change programmes. Seeing the alignment, a meaningful partnership was formed between Healing Hands, Fezile Security, and Mandela Square Boxer Superstore.

Together, we distributed 150 blankets to elderly residents, bringing warmth, comfort, and smiles during the cold season.

This is what happens when purpose meets action.
