A TRUE EDENVALE ICON | DE BACKERY 🥖

Known for their delicious sausage rolls and so much more, De Backery has been part of the Edenvale community for generations!

It was a great pleasure to welcome Mark Verhoogt, fourth generation baker and owner of De Backery, to The Weekend Expression Session with Robin Hide.

Mark shared the incredible story behind this much loved local business, from his early years growing up in the bakery and learning from his father, to eventually taking over and continuing to grow the family legacy.

One of Edenvale’s longest standing businesses, De Backery remains a local treasure, with a story that’s every bit as special as the treats it’s known for.

We look forward to stopping by and seeing the famous windmill turn! 😄

An urgent appeal has been issued to help locate 18-year-old Kayla Hesselburg, who went missing in Edenvale, Gauteng, on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.
According to the Vulnerable Citizens Support Initiative (VCSI), Kayla was dropped off at college at approximately 08:50. At around 11:30, she reportedly left the college premises and has not been seen or heard from since.
She was last wearing a black skirt, black stockings and a black long-sleeved T-shirt.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Edenvale SAPS on 071 889 1673 or VCSI on 074 021 0111.
Please share to help bring Kayla home safely.
