Treeofhope Tree of Hope Baby Box was created because the East Rand was devoid of any space where parents intent on abandoning their child, could do so safely

It is estimated that 3,500 babies are abandoned every year in South Africa. What makes this statistic even harder to swallow, is that these are only the figures for the children who survive. Figures compiled in Gauteng show that for every abandoned child found alive, two are found dead. A recent Medical Research Council study on child homicide reveals that children in South Africa are at the highe

st risk of unnatural deaths in the first six days of life. Research shows that 65 per cent of abandoned children are newborns, and 90 per cent are under the age of one. Many abandoned babies have already survived a late-term abortion. 52 to 58 per cent of SA abortions are illegal (up to150 000 per year).

70 per cent of abandonments are unsafe and many babies are never found. These are the reasons that the Tree of Hope was created. The East Rand was devoid of any space where parents intent on abandoning their child, could do so safely. In recent years, 3 children have simply been left at the gate of Monte Waldi Nursery School. One child was almost missed. It was a Friday and that gate is largely unused in the evenings. Only by sheer luck was the child seen. The Tree of Hope works closely with the SAPS and Edenvale Welfare to ensure that any baby abandoned has the best chance of a good forever family. References

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BEST SECURITY COMPANY!!!!!
Mamba Strike Force turned 34!!
Mamba strike force has been looking after Tree of Hope since 2019! In all this time we have NEVER experienced bad service from Mamba.
Mamba takes care of the security of our little school as well as the homes of the safe care mommies!
They came out to every baby that came through our saver!!! So many photo's, so many memories. MAMBA's donations kept our mommy project going for the last few years. Without Mamba Strike Force we will not be able to do what we do!
They do so much for the community,- they keep us safe, they have clean-up operations, they support so many charities and so much more!

UPDATE ON COURT CASE
Day 3 went well and now we wait for the final determination of the high court!!
Herewith the latest court order. The baby savers are still allowed to operate until the final determination of the high court. As I said previously, this is not a competition between BSSA and DSD, and we do not view them as the villians. We have a different outlook and as Solomon in the bible had to decide the fate of the baby when the two mothers both claimed to be the mother of the baby, the high court must decide the way forward. All we want is for our children of South Africa to be safe and not die on rubbish dumps, stormwater drains, pit- latrines etc. We want to offer a safe alternative.

Today we celebrate all mothers, including foster moms, safe care moms, stepmoms, aunts, sisters, grannies, single dads, brothers or any family member that stepped up as moms! Thank you!! May you be blessed!!
We also celebrate moms who had to make the difficult decision to give up their babies- to the mothers who had to make the difficult decision to give your baby up for adoption, give your baby up for foster care or place your baby in a baby saver, know that we will keep you in our prayers and admire your strength to safely relinquish your child.

📢 Day 2 | Baby Savers High Court Matter

Today marks Day 2 of proceedings in this landmark case before the Gauteng High Court.

Lawyers for Human Rights is representing the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria as amicus curiae (Friend of the court) in this matter.

At the centre of the matter is whether the law wrongly treats life preserving conduct as child abandonment, with far reaching consequences for infants and the women most affected.

The matter raises critical questions on dignity, equality, fair labelling, and the need to distinguish unsafe abandonment from acts aimed at protecting a child’s life.

High court case update
As many of you know DSD Gauteng is against baby savers and has tried to close the baby savers in Gauteng. Tree of Hope is part of Baby Savers SA and Baby savers SA and door of hope had to go to court to stop this from happening.
DSD says that baby savers promote abandonment- ( no research to back that statement) yet babies are unsafely abandoned and killed daily in South- Africa.
DSD also says they are against baby savers because a child has a right to an identity and culture and if relinguished anonymously they do not know their indentity or culture- it is a valid point, BUT what is the alternative- to die in a stormwater drain without an identity??? Or to be picked up on a rubbish dump....
DSD further says that baby savers open a gap for child trafficking- this is one of the main reasons why we created Baby Savers SA- to regulate the savers....
DSD says they have alternatives in place- for example to give baby up for adoption, to give baby up for foster care, oh and my favourite- baby can be left at hospital after birth for adoption....
Well, clearly their alternatives don't work because unsafe child abandonment is at an all time high. I spoke to numerous mothers and had to hear how they were shamed, how they were forced to breastfeed the baby etc. Now you can shame these ladies all you want, but until you didnt walk in their shoes, you have no right to judge. This is not DSD's fault, but it shows that their alternatives are being sabotaged by other roleplayers.
I hear what DSD says, but I do not agree 100% with everything-
Baby Savers SA says- lets be part of the solution- at the end it is about saving lives- a safe alternative for a desperate mom.
DSD we hear you, but what about if we fight together for safe haven laws in South-Africa?
What about if we take hands and say lets work together-
1. Lets start with staff at hospitals- maybe additional training to be more empathetic, nursing staff putting their own beliefs aside and listen to the mothers and help them, not shame them, not judge them. DSD- what about rolling out a program to educate them?
2. Installing baby savers at fire stations or police stations? Then DSD can regulate the savers.
3. Hold your social workers accountable. No social worker should judge or shame a mother if she approaches them to give up her baby for adoption- yet it happens all the time- we had a mother that placed her baby in our saver after she went to the CPO in our area to give up her baby for adoption. Instead of helping her, they gave her a food parcel and send her away- well she placed baby in our saver and left the food parcel at the taxi rank. How do we know this? Because she phoned us to ask how her baby was doing.
In short- this is not about Baby Savers SA against DSD, no not at all- this is about getting safe haven laws in South-Africa- laws to protect OUR children!!! Children of South-Africa!!
As we say at Tree of Hope-
IF YOU SAFE ONE CHILD, YOU SAFE A NATION!!!!!
Tomorrow is the last day in court. Please pray for our legal team and all the children of South- Africa.

*UPDATE*
First of all, thank you so much for all the support and messages/ comments of support. We truly appreciate it and I think the love in the comments really carried Lonè.
Lonè is doing ok, she is back at work. The people who committed this crime have no idea of what they actually did. I was really considering closing the nursery school and charity to be honest, because I was and still am very angry. I was questioning if it was worth it, but lets focus on the good-
Our community!! Lonè was donated a new laptop as well as 2 cell phones. Thank you so so much!
We also received R 3350 towards a new car in total.
Unfortunately I instructed Lonè to stop the extra support classes over the weekend at the nursery school.
I need to also thank the following people-
Mamba Strike Force.
Everyone that donated towards replacing the stuff thst was taken on the day.
I am not going to tag you in person or name you because I did it in the past and people started to harass the people for donations! Inagine that!! You know we really appreciate what you did. Every R50 make a difference- as someone pointed out if every follower donated R50 we would have more than R 300 000.
So in short- thank you so so much!!
We also thank GOD that HE was and still is with Lonè, people are quick to say, but GOD allowed it, no HE was with her and that is why she is still with us, physically unharmed. We know that she was emotionally harmed and we are slowly taking the bandages off the emotionally wound- one step at a time.
As Brent Lindeque- goodnews guy would say-
Love you
Bye!!!

Sad day!!!!!!
Lonè, the principal at our Tree of Hope nursery school was hijacked this morning at Tree of Hope. On Sunday mornings she gives extra lessons to children that struggle to keep up at school. She also went to get baby goodies she would've delivered to a mommy from our mommy project.
Lone is safe, just very traumatized because they had a gun against her head and took her car, phone as well as her laptop. They didnt have insurance and please can I ask that everyone refrain from negative comments.
We have R 6000+ followers and I want to ask you to please make a donation towards a car, laptop and or phone for her if possible at all.
I feel terrible that this happened to her and have alot of anger and sadness at the moment.
Herewith the banking details-

Hi!!!
February almost done and dusted so I thought we can do a little update.
Lets start with the nursery school. We currently have 65 children attending the Tree of Hope nursery school. They are all settled in nicely now.
We have 9 children on full scholarship in The le Roux Schools and one of them is a head leader!!! We are so proud! We have another 27 on partial scholarship.
In our homes it is going well! Business as usual. The cutest baby with special needs was placed in our care and the baby is doing so well, cuteness overload!!
A few people asked what our needs are at the moment- so herewith a wish list-
We are in DESPERATE need of food for our nursery school and food parcels.
1,2,5 and 6 nappies.
Wet wipes
Someone to sponsor the OT and other therapies for 3 children with special needs in our care.
First aid goodies, for example plasters, bandages, gauze, dettol.
This year is financially extremely challenging and we are so blessed to have "a village" we can turn to.
