The prevention team conducted a session on gender diversity and human rights at Cuba.

The session explained the differences between biological s*x, gender identity and gender expression. Facilitators discussed how people may identify and express themselves in different ways and stressed the importance of respecting everyone.

Participants were also educated about human rights, equality and non discrimination. The discussion encouraged respect for diversity and challenged stereotypes and discrimination against people who are different from them.

Dr Paul Cromhout was a committed social justice activist, visionary leader and champion of community development whose work touched countless lives across South Africa. His dedication to advancing health, human dignity and social change leaves behind a remarkable legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.

The prevention team conducted a session on Gender Based Violence and advocacy, focusing on s*xual abuse and consent, at Msintsi Location.

The session began with a recap of the previous discussion, which focused on intimate partner violence(IPV) and the cycle of violence.

The facilitator then explained how people may use manipulation, persuasion and coercion to get what they want from others. The discussion emphasised that consent must be a clear, voluntary and enthusiastic “yes.”

Participants were reminded that anything other than a clear yes does not constitute consent.

The Prevention Team conducted a session on gender diversity and human rights at Gwiqi Location.

The session focused on educating participants about gender diversity and the importance of respecting people of different gender identities. As the session took place during Pride Month, it also highlighted the rights of LGBTQIA+ people and the importance of inclusion and equality.

The facilitators emphasised that everyone has a right to be treated with dignity and respect and should not face discrimination because of how they identify themselves. Participants were encouraged to share what they learned with their friends and families to help promote understanding and acceptance in their communities.

The Prevention Team conducted a session on GBV, focusing on s*xual abuse, consent and advocacy at NU 18 in Mdantsane.

The session discussed how s*xual abuse affects many young women and how it can happen in different spaces, including romantic relationships, schools and churches. The facilitators also raised the issue of s*xual corruption, including practices like s*x-for-jobs and s*x-for-marks.

The second part of the session focused on consent, explaining what consent is and what it is not. Participants were encouraged to understand their rights and speak out against abuse.

To commemorate child protection week, masimanyane was invited to give a talk on GBVF with the children at the John X Merriman child and youth care centre.

The session created a safe space for the children to learn about the different forms of violence, the importance of speaking out and where to seek help when faced with abuse or harmful situations. The discussion also emphasized children’s rights.

Manyano Football Club spoke about using soccer to address social issues, including GBV. The club is based in Duncan Village and uses sport to teach young people positive values.

The speaker also encouraged young people to join recreational groups in their communities, as these activities can help keep them away from trouble and support their personal development.

The Prevention Team conducted a session on SRHR linking it with HIV/AIDS awareness, with Grade 9A learners at Eric Mntonga High School.

The session unpacked what SRHR is and highlighted how access to accurate information empowers learners to make informed decisions and advocate for themselves.

Consent and statutory r**e were also emphasised, helping learners understand their rights, responsibilities and the importance of respecting boundaries. The discussion also focused on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.

The Prevention Team conducted a session on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights linking it with HIV/AIDS awareness, with Grade 8A learners at Eric Mntonga High School.

The session started with an introduction to Masimanyane and Gender Based Violence, as this was the learners’ first session with MWRI.

The facilitators then discussed SRHR and linked it to HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. The session also covered the age of consent and statutory r**e helping learners understand their rights, responsibilities and the legal implications surrounding these issues.

The Prevention Team conducted a Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights session, linking it with HIV/AIDS awareness, with Grade 9D learners at Wongalethu High School.

The session today began with a discussion on Gender Based Violence, followed by an introduction to SRHR. Learners actively participated and engaged in discussions around their rights, responsibilities and had a short discussion on consent.

The session concluded with a discussion on HIV and AIDS focusing on prevention, treatment and addressing common misconceptions.

The Prevention Team conducted a Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) session, linked to HIV/AIDS awareness, with Grade 9C learners at Wongalethu High School.

The session started with an introduction to Masimanyane and a discussion on Gender Based Violence.
This was followed by an introduction to SRHR. At first, many learners said they did not know the term, but as it was explained in a simple way, they took part in the discussion and showed a better understanding of the topic.

The session ended with a discussion on HIV and AIDS. The facilitators built on what learners had already learned at school, corrected common misunderstandings and shared updated information on HIV prevention, treatment and management.
