In Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality , the only form of hustling that appears to be tolerated is paying individuals with taxpayers’ money to repair water meters that are broken or stolen on a regular basis. Ratepayers’ hard-earned money is not protected. Instead, they face repeated increases that seem to enable these illegal activities.

For the past two years, we have attempted to engage both law enforcement and the municipality for assistance, but no action has been taken. Even the successful removal of car washers from the Beachfront does not motivate them to take action that would be mutually beneficial and save costs.

We are proud to congratulate one of our executive members on being nominated by the Daily Dispatch Local Heroes. This recognition means a great deal to our organization and serves as powerful encouragement to continue serving our community with the same commitment and care.

When we began, we had one clear objective: to serve our community by protecting jobs, restoring safety, and rebuilding a sense of security. We had to step up because we could no longer stand by and watch the decay of what should be one of South Africa’s most beautiful beachfronts. Quigney is a key tourist destination in KuGompo City, yet it had become one of the most neglected and deserted places. Many of our members were on the brink of closing their businesses, and young people were unable to travel safely to work due to ongoing criminal activities.

Through this initiative, we were also able to engage with the car washers in our area. With respect, we asked them to step away from activities that were harming the community and instead join us in rebuilding it. Today, many of them have been absorbed into our work and receive a monthly stipend. Without their dedication and willingness to change, we would not be where we are today.

To everyone involved — the businesses and individuals — you made this possible. Thank you.

Satish, we deeply appreciate everything you do for this community. Your leadership and dedication have been instrumental in driving this change, and we believe that together, we can achieve even more.

We invite all members of the community, businesses, and partners to stand with us. Your support will help us continue this work and restore Quigney to the vibrant, safe destination it was always meant to be.

Quigney Youth Month Launch | Youth Day Market Day Pop-Up

The Quigney Ratepayers and Residents Association (QPRRA) officially kicked off Youth Month with a live feature on Keith Ngesi Radio Station, where we outlined our youth-focused initiatives to expand access to recreational activities and create safe, engaging spaces for young people in Quigney through a series of activities, including:

Craft Exhibition: Showcasing local crafters and creatives
Youth Debate: An open discussion on jobs, entrepreneurship, and community development

Purpose: To create a positive space where our youth can engage meaningfully with social issues, while giving exposure to local talent and small businesses. At the heart of this effort is our commitment to building a connected community where every resident, especially our youth, feels supported, included, and empowered to participate.

Let’s come together to celebrate Quigney’s creativity and empower the next generation.

It breaks our hearts to see how difficult it is to get things done in Quigney. If things continue like this, it could take another five years before it is fixed. This is what KuGompo City looks like.

We are pleading with property owners to stand with us. Let’s come together and change the plight of Quigney before it’s too late, especially with the local government elections approaching. Our community deserves better, and the time to act is now.

A big thank you to Alert!

On behalf of the Quigney community, we sincerely thank our valued stakeholder, *Red Alert*, for their continuous support of our clean-up initiatives. Your commitment helps keep our streets clean and our neighbourhood safe.

To all Quigney residents: a clean community starts with us. Let’s take responsibility and support these initiatives. Small actions, like not littering and joining clean-ups, go a long way in building the Quigney we all want.

Together, we can make a difference.

A couple of weeks ago, we received complaints regarding the sale of expired food at Quigney spaza shops. We reported the matter to the authorities, prompting an operation by BCMM Health Services that resulted in the closure of several non-compliant businesses.

QRPRA was subsequently requested to support BCMM’s efforts by monitoring these premises and reporting to law enforcement to ensure they remain closed until all municipal compliance issues are resolved.

It is deeply disheartening that certain individuals opposed these interventions — measures designed solely to protect our community’s health and well-being.

With local elections coming up soon, we must demand better. Our families deserve safe food, and there is no excuse for putting lives at risk.
