Yesterday, one of our dedicated Team O members was brutally assaulted while doing his job — protecting our streets and upholding the law.
His only offence? Stopping illegal car washers from washing cars on the street in Quigney, an act that is against municipal by-laws, no matter who you are.

The vehicle owner who believed he is above the law chose violence over compliance and beat up our team member.
We want to sincerely thank SAPS for their swift and decisive response in arresting the suspect. The suspect will appear in court today.

We have instructed our legal team to explore all options, including a civil claim, to ensure justice is served.
Team O strongly condemns this barbaric and cowardly act. We will not be intimidated. Washing cars on the streets of Quigney is illegal, and any act of violence against our team will have serious consequences.

Our team member's safety is our priority.

REAL TALK!!!

We need to have an honest conversation, even if it makes us uncomfortable.

We are quick to point fingers at the person on the street, but we never want to talk about the people who are actually buying.

Let’s be honest - our infrastructure is being stolen every day. Cables, manhole covers, taps, fences. It’s stolen and sold. And the sad part is, we all know where it goes. Some scrapyards and second-hand dealers are buying this stuff knowing very well it belongs to the community members and municipality.

And who pays in the end? Us, the ratepayers. We keep paying to replace what was stolen, while the real buyers keep getting richer.

We must ask ourselves - where is all this scrap really going? The guy pushing a trolley in the street doesn’t have ships to export to China or India. He doesn’t have that connection. Someone higher up does. There is a whole value chain, and we are only fighting at the bottom.

If we really want to stop this theft, we must stop pretending we don’t know. We must go to the top of the chain.

We need proper laws, we need traceability, and we need to hold these scrap dealers accountable when they are found with our public property.

🛑>STOP DAMAGING OUR PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE🛑

The past few days have not been easy. Team O has been on the ground trying to manage the car washer situation as best as we can. We are happy to share that two more washers have now joined our team.

For those who don't know, Team O is made up of former car washers. They have been with us for two years now. We look after them through your monthly donations. Every cent is accounted for and goes towards helping them feed their families.

We still believe that car washers need proper structure and support. That support should not come at the cost of our already deteriorating infrastructure.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this initiative. You are making a real difference.

The Quigney Ratepayers and Residents Association is proud to have finally secured a permanent solution to the eyesore building that has been a headache for many years. These baby steps might seem insignificant; however, they play a huge role in preventing crime.

We are committed to making a meaningful impact in our community and sincerely thank the Body Corporate and Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality for their support. Truly, nothing is impossible when we work together.

We encourage all property owners to get in touch with us so that we can join hands in cleaning up our environment. These efforts will go a long way in improving our property values and restoring pride in Quigney.

FEEDBACK MEETING WITH Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality

The Quigney Ratepayers and Residents Association (QRPRA) wishes to provide feedback to all community members following our feedback meeting with the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) held on 06 October 2026.

The meeting, held under the leadership of the BCMM Health Services General Manager, Mr. Madikizela and his team, was a follow-up to the consultative meeting held last month, where various community concerns were discussed.

We are pleased to report that the meeting was fruitful and constructive, with BCMM providing comprehensive updates on most of the matters previously raised. The QRPRA would like to commend Mr. Madikizela and his team for their responsiveness, professionalism, and commitment to addressing the challenges facing Quigney. We acknowledge that some matters are still in progress, as they are subject to necessary legal and administrative processes.

The QRPRA continues to appeal to all residents, business owners, and stakeholders to work together to keep Quigney clean, safe, and welcoming. A well-maintained environment is essential to attract investment and new businesses, which will ultimately create fair and inclusive opportunities for all.

We are mindful that community development may cause uncertainty and discomfort for some. We therefore urge all community members to allow due processes to unfold, particularly those initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and addressing crime-related challenges. As an Association, our advocacy remains rooted in promoting equal opportunities and sustainable development for all residents, within the ambit of the law.

We thank Mr. Madikizela and his team for their continued engagement and our community for its ongoing support.
