“The basis for U3A is small study and discussion groups that meet regularly, in the daytime, often in each other’s homes, on an amazing range of topics. The University of the Third Age sounds like some religious cult but it is not! The third age refers to partially or fully retired mature persons. So who belongs to the first two ages? The ‘First Age’ consists of young people who are learning, and the ‘Second Age’ to members of the economically active bracket or the working population.
