Frere Bear Project Our mission is simple: We strive to bring joy and comfort to every child admitted to hospital!

Frere Bear is an organisation that collects pre-loved soft toys and distrubutes them to Frere Hospital. Our goal is that every child that is admitted to hospital would have a furry-friend to bring them comfort and love whilst in hospital. We fix, wash, ribbon and stamp every bear before sending it out to its new home. The bears are kept in a locked cupboard at Frere Hospital before being given out

to a precious child. Frere Bear all started with a chance meeting and a request for help to upgrade the Frere Paediatric Orthopaedic ward. Seeing the children in these wards who were there for long stays, with nothing to comfort them was very heartbreaking and this is where the idea Frere Bear project was born. The vision is to supply every child admitted to Frere Hospital with a soft toy. Since its humble beginnings in June 2023, Frere Bear has given over 2000 bears to Frere Hospital. With the incredible support of the East London community this project just keeps on growing and blessing so many precious children.

These bears are all ready to receive their graduation ribbons, before making a sick child at Frere Hospital feel a lot better! 🎀

A soft toy might seem small, but to a child sitting in a hospital ward, wrapped in bandages, hooked up to drips, facing pain and fear, a teddy becomes comfort, courage, and something to hold onto.

We’re asking for your help.
If you have any pre-loved, unwanted teddies or soft toys, please consider donating them. Your teddy could be the one that makes a child feel safe, seen, and a little less alone.
