COMMUNITY SAFETY AWARENESS | THEFT OUT OF MOTOR VEHICLES

Durbanville CPF, in partnership with our local police - reminding parents and members of our community to remain vigilant, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up times.

There has been an increase in theft from motor vehicles in and around school areas. Please lock your vehicle, do not assume that the doors have locked, and always double-check before walking away.

Where possible, keep valuables completely out of sight. Criminals often take advantage of a moment of distraction β€” especially when parents are focused on getting their children safely in and out of the vehicle.

A few seconds spent checking your vehicle could prevent a costly and upsetting incident.

Stay alert. Lock it. Check it. Protect it.

It is my privilege, on behalf of the Durbanville Community Police Forum, to congratulate Constable GG Booysen on being recognised as our Police Officer of the Month for July 2026.

Constable Booysen has distinguished himself through his hard work, commitment and dedication to keeping our community safe. He has made 32 arrests, which is a remarkable contribution to policing in our community.

But beyond the numbers, it is his consistent commitment and willingness to serve that deserves recognition.

Constable Booysen, thank you for your service, your professionalism and for going the extra mile. The Durbanville community appreciates what you do.

Congratulations, and may you continue to make a difference.

COMMUNITY APPEAL – DURBANVILLE C*D

Durbanville CPF, together with SAPS Durbanville, appeals to residents and visitors not to give money or food directly to children who are begging in the C*D.

Although the intention is to help, direct giving can unintentionally encourage children to remain on the streets and continue begging.

If you encounter a child who appears vulnerable or in need of assistance, please report the situation to SAPS or the appropriate social-development services rather than giving money directly.

This is not about turning our backs on children. It is about making sure they receive the right help and protection.

Help us help them.

Thank you for your comments and for raising the question regarding the use of AI.

Just to clarify: the use of AI in creating an image for a social media post should not be confused with the substance or purpose of the message itself.

Like many organisations, the CPF occasionally uses AI-assisted tools to create visuals where appropriate. This assists us in producing clear and impactful awareness material without relying on photographs of real victims, particularly where the subject matter involves vulnerable women and children. Using an AI-generated image also helps us protect the dignity, identity and privacy of those who may be affected.

The image is simply a visual aid intended to draw attention to an important issue. It does not replace the work being done behind the scenes, engagement with relevant stakeholders, or the reporting of concerns to the appropriate authorities.

Our focus remains where it should be: raising awareness, supporting our community and ensuring that serious concerns affecting vulnerable members of our community are brought to the attention of the appropriate role-players.

We appreciate constructive questions and engagement. We also believe that the conversation should remain focused on the plight of those who need assistance, rather than solely on the technology used to create an awareness image.

Thank you for acknowledging the work done by the Durbanville CPF. We appreciate the support.

The Durbanville CPF has received concerns regarding adults and children standing at intersections and on the streets asking motorists for money.

While we understand that many families face genuine hardship, we are particularly concerned when young children are exposed to traffic, extreme weather conditions, hunger, dehydration or other potentially unsafe circumstances.

Children should not be placed in situations where their safety and wellbeing may be compromised.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

If you see a child who appears to be in distress, unsupervised, exposed to dangerous conditions, hungry, dehydrated, or repeatedly being used to solicit money, please report your concerns to the appropriate authorities.

COMMUNITY AWARENESS & APPEAL FOR RESPONSIBLE ASSISTANCE

The Durbanville CPF wishes to bring an ongoing concern to the attention of our community.

A woman accompanied by a young child has reportedly been observed begging regularly at the corner of Fairtrees Road and Sport Way, particularly over weekends. The presence of a young child in these circumstances understandably raises concerns regarding the child’s welfare, safety and possible vulnerability.

We appeal to members of the public not to provide cash, food, clothing or other items directly at this location. While the instinct to assist comes from a place of kindness and compassion, direct street giving can unintentionally perpetuate vulnerable situations and may discourage appropriate intervention and support.

Where there are concerns involving a child, the matter should rather be brought to the attention of the relevant authorities so that the circumstances can be properly assessed and, where necessary, appropriate assistance and protection can be provided.

The CPF also appeals to community members not to feed or distribute items to individuals congregating outside the Durbanville SAPS station. While these acts are undoubtedly motivated by kindness, ongoing direct street feeding contributes to people remaining and congregating in these areas and creates additional challenges, including littering and sanitation concerns.

Compassion must be accompanied by responsible action.

If you are concerned about the welfare of a child or vulnerable person, please report the matter to SAPS or the appropriate social services so that appropriate intervention and assistance can be considered.

🀝 Together, we can care responsibly for vulnerable members of our community while helping to keep Durbanville safe and clean.
