Your child does not need to be visibly falling apart to be struggling.

In recent months, South Africa has been reminded in heartbreaking ways that many children and teens are carrying more than adults realise.

Emotional distress is not always loud.
Sometimes it looks like withdrawal, anger, silence, sleeping changes, school refusal, sudden drops in marks, fear of going to school, giving things away, or hopeless comments like “I don’t want to be here” or “everyone would be better without me.”

Please don’t dismiss these signs as drama, moodiness, or “just a phase.”

Check in.
Ask directly.
Listen without rushing to correct.
Speak to the school if bullying is involved.
Get support early.
